Why do they keep saying Latin America? Is that the tip of South America or above the US/Mexican border?

Question is, if its civilian balloon (as Chinese claim), why Chinese did not allerted countries in advance that their civilian gadget went awry?

I always thought latin America were those countries on the skinny strip between north and south America

Latin America is all Spanish speaking countries in the South and Central America

I felt the same way until I read Buzz_light_year’s  post and then dug a little deeper, The fact that a high altitude ballon is recognized as a preferred method of EMP delivery, make it less easy to dismiss.

Wahetever that balloon is, it should have been shot before entering US airspace. PERIOD.
