Georgia State Senator Calls Clarence Thomas ‘Uncle Tom’ During Statue Vote

A Georgia State Senator referred to Justice Clarence Thomas, the second black man to serve on the United States Supreme Court, by the racial slur “Uncle Tom” this week, presumably over his conservative leanings.

The racist comment occurred on Tuesday as the Georgia State Senate voted 32-20 along party lines to create a statue on Capitol grounds dedicated to Justice Clarence Thomas, a native of the Peach State. In the leadup to the vote, Sen. Emmanuel Jones (D) likened Thomas to a slave that “sold his soul to the slave master.”

Although my goldfish has not yet died, I want his (or her) statue too, please. He or she must have swum half a million rounds already in his or her - I propose the pronoun ele for goldfish of undetermined sex and the pronoun razy for goldfish of undetermined gender - goldfish bowl. Surely that deserves a statue financed by the tax payers. In gold, please, and a hundred times life size. (Ele-razy  is 31 centimeters in length.)

 

Provided I get this statue, I would like to buy a mansion with appropriate grounds and a thirty horse stable, with grooms for pay.

Just an assumption, but I guess that Sen Jones voted against. I think the 32 that voted in favor should censure/fine him. Then see if he mouths off again in public.

This is unfortunately the natural next step in the democrat playbook. While the term "Uncle Tom" is certainly shocking in 2023, the rhetoric behind it is as old as Joe Biden (so, I think 174 years), and simply reflects long-standing democrat values about minority voters.

I have a confession. In my house we say “Uncle Tom” fairly frequently. My wife has an uncle named Tom.
