They knew there was no danger, the sirens were for dramatic effect.

The sirens were to scare their own citizens to stay inside their homes so they wouldn't interfere with the photo op.

Yes it was a huge Morale blow to the Russian government and Vladimir Putin personally. Now the people and the Government know without any doubt that the United States stands shoulder to shoulder with the Ukraine and they will be there until the end. This visit speaks volumes and when the Russian Soldiers finally hear of this, it will cause what little morale they left to fade to black. What’s sad is that the MAGA Republicans are already denouncing this situation and trying to use it based political affiliations, and while overlooking the clear cut relevance of the act itself.

Pelosi, Austin, Blinken etc have all already visited Kyiv since 2022. I am not sure how the Biden visit changes anything.

In fact, we lost count of all the leaders and politicians who made those special trips in Ukraine since the war started.

I will try to break it down for you, it is not uncommon to send proxies to discuss issues between leaders as described above. However, it’s a completely different form of diplomacy when a sitting United States President  enters an active Combat Zone that isn’t secured  by US Military personnel. The purpose of the of such a visit is two fold to increase morale of the Ukrainian people, by showing them the United States will stand with them to this conflict’s completion. While at the same telling the Russians that no matter the circumstances that the United States and  NATO will support the Ukraine until the conclusion of the current Combat  Operations.

Well he left more of a carbon footprint and spent more money on this trip than all of us will in our lifetime.   He didn't need to go.  Zoom works.

Security in the US is a nightmare for any president, but then that is the Secret Service. I can't imagine how many of our military personnel were sent in advance to make sure everything is secure.

Just the plane itself is very costly.

2020 cost per flight hour to operate the president's plane was $176,393.

According to NPR we informed Russia a head of time.

I guess the idea being to avoid an accidental WW3 incident.

Let them bark. In 1993 Biden visited Sarajevo that was under shelling 24/7. He showed gutts then and he is showing gutts now at this stage of his life.

And anyway, aren't all his business interests in the Ukraine, or was that just junior?

First he abused a group peaceful protesters, by having them gassed with CS. Then, the Don walk out with the now famous Bible which was a message his base.

Is this the same Bible he held upside down that convinced the Talibangelicals that he's the second coming?

On Monday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” East Palestine, Ohio Mayor Trent Conaway stated that President Joe Biden’s Ukraine trip on Monday is “the biggest slap in the face” and the President “giving millions of dollars away to people over there, and not to us,” “tells you right now he doesn’t care about us.”

its kind of pointless to pretend you give a rats ass about carbon footprints or that it should be a deal breaker.

Of course half of the US disrespects Biden as much as the other half disrespect the former incompetent crook, so he won't win any points here in the US.

It might help end the war sooner though.  Putin has to find a way to maintain power and extricate himself or he will go down. Is he too late, we will see.  For the rest of the world, Biden showing up is symbolic.  For Kiev, the air raid sirens are symbolic too they live with them almost daily, and at least Biden held the Bible right side up.   If it increases Ukrainian morale and decreases Russian willingness to fight in Ukraine then it may help bring an end.  When Biden says the US  is there for the long haul, do you really think Ukrainians want a long haul?  They want an end soon, and that is what this is about, no matter what the speech says  But, the proof is in the pudding.  Will the Russian offensive peter out?  Will increasing numbers of Russian soldiers surrender?  Will Russian soldiers revolt against their generals, or Russian citizens become contentious about the war?  For those of you who have not read much Russian history, look up battleship Potemkin.

The Russian battleship Potemkin (Russian: Князь Потёмкин Таврический, romanized: Kniaz Potyomkin Tavricheskiy, "Prince Potemkin of Taurida") was a pre-dreadnought battleship built for the Imperial Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet. She became famous when the crew rebelled against the officers in June 1905 (during that year's revolution), which is now viewed as a first step towards the Russian Revolution of 1917.

His visit was quick and effective, and his maintenance crew is smaller than the one required for an Abrams tank battalion.

The US likes stability.  We want everybody to sit back down in their chairs around the table and start  playing the trading game again.  It is commerce  that brings the jobs and puts food on your tables. It is prosperity that keeps the natives from getting too restless. We might even wind up helping Russia rebuild to keep China from filling the vacuum.  Because we like stability.

You know better than that.  He is not going to gain any points at home.  This one was for Ukraine and an effort to end this war soon.  I know you won't believe that, but you can watch how it plays out.
