Still Waters Posted yesterday at 02:01 PM #1 Share Posted yesterday at 02:01 PM (IP: Staff) · A new government public warning system, in which alerts are sent to mobile phone users about events that may put their life in danger, has been launched in the UK with a nationwide trial planned next month. The Cabinet Office said the emergency alert system could be deployed in events such as severe flooding, fires or extreme weather, noting that similar systems had been credited with saving lives in countries including the Netherlands and Japan. It will revolutionise our ability to warn and inform people who are in immediate danger, and help us keep people safe. As we’ve seen in the US and elsewhere, the buzz of a phone can save a life.” The government said there had already been successful trials of the UK system in East Suffolk and Reading. A nationwide trial is set for the early evening of 23 April. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/mar/19/uk-launches-emergency-phone-alerts-public-warning-system 1 1 Top

L.A.T.1961 Posted yesterday at 04:07 PM #4 Share Posted yesterday at 04:07 PM I am wondering how the mobile phone system will cope with extra traffic, equivalent to the entire local mobile users, on top of normal demand ? Is this why the test is early evening ?
+susieice Posted 23 hours ago #5 Share Posted 23 hours ago I get emergency alerts through my community. I am also notified whenever an amber alert is issued for a missing child. The system seems to be working fine. 1 Top
