What's the least exercise we can get away with?

We are recommended to do nearly two and a half hours (150 minutes) of moderate-intensity exercise each week. About a quarter of the UK population do not even manage half an hour.

So is there something easier we can aim for? What is the least amount of exercise that will start to improve our health?

Someone who is keen to make exercise advice less intimidating is Dr Zoe Saynor, assistant professor of clinical exercise physiology at Portsmouth University, not to mention a retired elite-level rugby player.

She is going to help me look for an answer.

150 minutes per week?  That is nothing.

150/7 = about 21 minutes per day.

Still, it’s more than I’m doing today…so I shouldn’t talk.  Before I got old, I used to do that 150 minutes almost in one day.  Now, not so much.  Getting old sucks in many ways, and is not so bad in others.

I tried out a new machine at the gym yesterday. It had the same old chocolate bars and snacks.
