Will the Earth eventually end up like Coruscant from Star Wars ?

According to projections the world will reach peak population in around 2070-2080 so it doesn't seem like the whole world will turn into a city.

I think there's problems that would prevent ab ecumenopolis from actually existing in real life, at least one that works like the popular idea of one, like Coruscant with its hundreds of layers upon layers. I think there's something about the heat produced by so many life forms that would require it would make it uninhabitable or something like that.

Our cities are getting larger all the time, but is it really plausible for them to ever cover the entire planet ?

Blade Runner more like…

May as well, since we already have Big Brother (1984), except big brother is not the government; and we have A Brave New World with the pharma selling and doctors pushing all the mood altering pills.   So lets have robots that have feelings for our pleasure and make sure they can only live a short time so that they will not revolt.

I don’t believe it’s possible or practical to cover a living world with a city. However, a dead world like Mars would meet all the requirements and since it doesn’t have life no consideration would be required for the extermination of entire species,

Indeed the heat generated from industrial processes, transportation, and other energy intensive processes would be tremendous. The urban heat island effect would be amplified severely making the climate uninhabitable assuming we're still building with concrete and asphalt. The lower levels of the ecumenopolis would have huge pollutant and heating issues unless we develop filtration and dissapation methods. Available resources are also a huge problem encompassing all this.

Most likely the future will be vertical building with existing green spaces preserved as much as possible otherwise there would be no natural oxygen generation. That and floating cities are some things we're theory-crafting at ASCE.

Do you know what you never see on the streets in Coruscant?  Feces and needles everywhere.  Your move, San Fran.
