Why are so many massive music arenas being built in the U.K.?

The first answer that came into my mind was this: because they are going to be used for some nefarious other purpose, not too far in the future, which definitely doesn't involve listening to music. I envisage UK citizens being herded into them against their will and locked in. 

Probably because you all don't have casinos with huge arenas.   What kind of nefarious purposes did you have in mind?   Mind control gatherings, make shift prisons, mass extermination events?

The new arena in Palm Desert CA (I'm not far from there) is viewed a symbol of the high population growth along with "rural" gentrification of the Coachella Valley already had the Coachella Music and Arts Fest (I attended the 2008 or Coachella-10, at least once in my life). We have a minor league ice hockey team now (the Firebirds, a farm team of the NHL's Seattle Kraken), entertainers and concerts all year round, esp the Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle appearance in the arena's opening day in Dec 10th last year.

Having read the article I must add that the arena mentioned for Bristol has been talked about for ten years.....still nothing.
