A 16-year-old boy from Florida was sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing his 13-year-old classmate over 100 times on Mother’s Day in 2021.

On Friday, Circuit Judge R Lee Smith handed out the verdict to Aiden Fucci, who had pleaded guilty in February to the first-degree murder of Tristyn Bailey.

Bailey's body was found on May 9, 2021, after her family had reported her missing the previous day. According to the state attorney, she was stabbed 114 times and sustained 49 defensive wounds on her head, hands, and arms.

Fucci was a juvenile when the killing occurred and was not eligible for the death penalty. US media reports said that his sentence can be reviewed after he spends 25 years behind bars.

Wow.

I very rarely use the “sad” emoticon here, but this story qualifies….

There exists in a certain percentage of humanity, true homicidal mania. Why, I don’t want to imagine, but thrill killing by young people can’t be tolerated.

What I would like to see is a genetic test for this, which could be used for possible intervention. We could never use it for discriminatory practices, but perhaps to assist in the emotional development of children with that gene, or combination of genes.

Thrill killing is as far from the imaginations of most of U.S. that we could at least hope for a treatment some day.

Does pure evil exist? I could argue this, but I would still wonder if we might find  something.

In a purely natural environment, this urge might be mitigated by the natural instinct to hunt for food or to protect the tribe. We shouldn’t miss an opportunity to learn, rather than just throwing away the key.
