I think we are already immortal, and the physical plane is not even the most enjoyable and pleasurable place to be.

This prediction seems a bit optimistic

I predict the prediction of this futurist will be incorrect.  We won’t be achieving immortality in 8 years through nano bot technology.

Possibly. But that won't bring an end to misery and suffering. Who needs immortality if happiness is but a moment? First make people happy, grateful for what they are and what they have, bring them hope, then give them immortality. Or will they need it when they are happy?

Can't be happy if you're dead

Why dead? I don't follow. I meant that happy people rarely want to live forever. They just don't care anymore.

I disagree. From my experience the people who are happy and enjoying life are the ones not wanting to die more so then unhappy people who see death as an escape

I do not approve of evil people living forever.

No worries, it will be so expensive that not everybody will be immortal.  It will only be the very wealthy who will be able to afford it.  Oh, wait.  I see your point.

What you describe is the joy which people commonly mistake for happiness. Real happiness is beyond such things as life and death, it is the deep tranquil feeling which lifts your conscience above everything that happens. Anyway joy is also very good.

We are close. Look at Christian Angemeyers latest ventures. How di we get around the telemere issue? Crack that and we have every chance

I don't believe in that futurist at all.

His book - The Singularity Is Near - is well worth the read.  He lays out how this will occur and I have no problem trusting him from the technology perspective.  However, he equates the ability to store near-endless amounts of data, to the literal transfer of human consciousness (soul) from our flesh and blood bodies to a machine.  Our consciousness, IMO, is far more than simply a conglomeration of data.  That data exists as a result of the spark of self-awareness, it is not the source of that self-awareness.

Yes, to transfer all data from our brain to a machine, we first need to understand how the brain works, and that is not an easy task. It is the brain trying to understand itself, not sure if that is even possible. Perhaps a more intelligent AI could help though. Then, there is also the matter of that if we will be able to do this, will the machine really be the same person as the original person? It seems like many see it as the same person living on but I don't see it that way, I see it as another person having the same personality and memories as the original person, believing that it is the original person. We could maybe do the transfer without killing the original person and then it would be seen more clearly that the machine is a clone, not the original person living on.

“…we will also be able to 'upload' our memories and thoughts into the cloud and keep them forever.”

Personally, I don’t think I’d want to upload my memories to the Cloud. What if I forgot my password? I can’t even remember my Facebook password.

If nothing else, the idea would be an interesting movie storyline, similar to the movie “Total Recall”.

Computer scientist Ray Kurzweil is certainly no stranger to making predictions about technology and the future.

I thought "the singularity" as in downloading conscioussness to computers was a passe' idea.   Who would want to live in a computer forever?

Might seem attractive if it’s possible to control alt delete certain memories.

I would, but I very much doubt it'll be possible in my lifetime.

I wouldn't, it would get boring very fast and I think we are already eternal (not because of any deity, just that we are)

Whereas, I don't think we are eternal, but I'd like to be.

Those are some pretty big predictions. Is there absolute proof he made these? Or is he just a bored computer nerd looking for attention

Maybe I’m just not intelligent enough, artificially or otherwise, to understand how digital ‘information’ equates to. . .L I F E.. or any sort of EXISTENCE or BEING..  whatever you want to call  it.    It’s amazingly similar I suspect, in that both involve electromagnetism?  … but not ALIVE.        .
