Meet the dad who is forced to live on a diet of Easter eggs - and has already eaten more than 200 this year. Ashley Kean, 30, says he can only digest chocolate, mashed potato, Yorkshire puddings and fruit. So, from January to April each year, he gorges on Easter treats - at a cost of hundreds of pounds. Ashley, a sales assistant, of Castleford, West Yorks., reckons he eats between three and six eggs a day. But he admits he does get sick of them - and wishes he could eat a normal diet. The dad-of-two says his strange habits started when he was a baby and have continued into adult life. He has been to see the doctor about it, but was told everything was 'normal' - leading him to think it could be psychological.

I think he's right that it's psychological and habitual. I think he has an eating disorder. It's not the "I need to be thin" or "gorge and purge" type, but instead the type where someone has restricted themselves for so long to a small selection of foodstuffs that their body either doesn't know anymore what to do with other types of food or simply hasn't learned it yet.

I'm saying this because I've been struggling with similar issues, also all my life. In in its most extreme phase, my diet was similarly restricted. Over the last ten years I've managed to get my body used to a much larger variety of food, but I still can't digest animal fats, for example.

It's called ARFID or avoidant and/or restrictive intake disorder and is considered a severe mental ailment that needs the help of a therapist at least, then a dietician to find out what nutrients they're missing and how to incorporate them into their diet.

Yeop that's what it is most likely. I've man aged to get a lot better with therapy and self-discipline, but there's still many food areas I can't really deal with.
With me it was also connected to a psychosis that I was taking "poisons" into my body with food. At the worst phase I could only eat dry cereal.

I just dont believe that he is 'forced' to eat only chocolate easter eggs. He needs a psychiatrist.

I see no diagnosis of any medical problem in the article.  What happens if he eats other things?  That isn't mentioned either.  I fear this is a clickbait story.

From the article link in my OP.

One possible diagnosis is Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Ashley says - a condition characterised by the person avoiding certain foods or types of food.
