Primary teacher, 52, sacked after Facebook appeal to parents of yobs who attacked his home

A primary school teacher has been sacked over a Facebook post he made after yobs threatened to murder and rape his family, he has claimed.

Michael Flynn, 52, allegedly broke his school's social media policy by posting online following two different incidents involving a group of youngsters at his assisted-living home, where his wife cares full time for her disabled daughter.

On May 23 the group allegedly tried to take a bicycle from the front garden of his home in Gillingham, Kent. His wife Angela, a former American police officer, says she asked them to leave before one of them threatened to stab her and bring people who would rape her and murder the family.

The nations that were formerly based on the rule of law have now allowed politics to use that law against innocent citizens rather than criminals.  Gee, I wonder how that works out in the end?

Nonsensical article.  He missed the confrontation himself because he was sleeping. He then posted something threatening on Facebook. He wouldn't have been sacked from teaching without a proper disciplinary process being followed; apart from anything else there is a shortage of teachers, especially male teachers. There will be a lot going on we don't know about. And how does he reach middle age without learning that you don't post stuff on SM if you are drunk or angry?

I am sure the kids are yobs who are out of control, but they way it has been reported it ridiculous: he encouraged the parents to get in touch. That's like saying "I encouraged someone to leave" when I told them to "**** off".

Mr Flynn, who missed the confrontation because he was sleeping through a diabetic episode, posted to encourage the boys’ parents to get in touch.

He posted: “Four kids tried to steal a pushbike from my front garden. When challenged they were verbally abusive and threatening to my wife.

“A chase ensued, one kid lost his shoes in the conflict. If this is your son, you may want to contact me before I contact the police. Twydall is a small place and I will find him sooner or later. So, if you want to sort this out calmly, I suggest the parents PM me or I will sort this out my way.”

No, they are using populism to divide the citizens, for their own political ends.

Sort it out my way almost can be taken as a threat that he is going to physically go after them.

Having someone threaten to rape, then kill members of your family has a tendency to cause that kind of looseness with language.

I agree with you, and those kids may well be out of control. But if you are a teacher, you can't threaten kids with violence. He was fired over safeguarding issues. He wrote:

However, the next day the same group returned to the property in Gillingham, Kent, with a large rock and looked ready to launch it at a window before Mr Flynn looked out and they ran off. He claims he was dismissed the following day over the Facebook post, with his former employer, Twydall Primary School, in Gillingham, saying they parted ways because of safeguarding worries.

And as a teacher, you don't put it on SM. So many people have been sacked over the years for putting stuff on Facebook.

And anyway, how often do kids murder and rape families? They didn't even throw the stone ("rock" according to the article) at his window. They were responding to his challenge on SM- it wouldn't be going too far to say he had challenged them to "sort it out" between themselves.

The article uses a lot of speculation so I will use some of my own- he slept through the original altercation and responded inappropriately on SM afterwards- I wouldn't be at all surprised if he had been drinking.

Sort of predictable that you would side with the low lifes that threatened murder & rape in this case. Its a good indicator of the decline of morals we've seen in recent years.

"Speaking to MailOnline, Mrs Flynn added: "I saw what happened in America with the way youngsters were allowed to get away with bad behaviour and sadly, Britain is now heading that way. Kids are becoming ungovernable, anti-social behaviour is increasing and parents can’t say anything, and schools don’t act to stop it.

"If a child steals a bike because he does not want to work for it and the school enables that child by sacking the teacher, then what message are you sending out?"

Indeed

I don't side with the kids at all. And I agree they're not being dealt with in an appropriate manner. I'm thinking of that TikTokker "Mizzy" who has been in the papers recently and getting away with home invasions and such like anti-social behaviours because he just got a fine which he probably won't pay. But if you think a good beating would do him good (and I'm sure many people think it would) you do not announce your intention to deliver it on Social Media. And if you have a good job which involves looking after and safe-guarding such children, you doubly don't. I'm actually on your side- I just think the teacher was a fool to post what he did post on Fb.

Fair enough.

I think he was just trying to alert the parents to the actions of their children.   I can see where "I'll sort this out my way" could be a threat, but it is not definitely a physical threat.  "His way" may be to turn it over to the police, as he mentioned early in the statement.
