Looking at the comments on the article I see it may also be the students parents keeping them home on those days.

Is this the one equating Muslims now with white supremacists? LOL. The lengths they'll go to.

I can't get to the article, but my first thought is school are getting too active on this LGBTQ issue. Leave it aside. Even that many letters in LGBTQ tells me something is being analyzed beyond most people's interest.

I am not anti-LGBTQ, but I think a certain liberal element wants it thrown too much in everyone's faces including the politically and religiously conservative's faces. I consider that unCanadian and unfriendly.

BTW, why are they wearing masks??? Are they sick?  They should stay home when they're sick.

Wearing masks because if the smoke drum the forest fires.

I really think we need kids to be kids.   Parents need to have frank  unemotional or opinionated discussions with their kids, let the kids reason it out on their own.

It's a community that is ostracising members of the community. You're conservative values are hindering a thought process.

Muslim familes had Christmas thrown out of public schools for the same reason. An unreasonable attachment to a cultural imaginary being.

It's religion being an ass yet again.

How so? They should not be expected to attend pride events in a free country. As long as they live and let live with the LGBTQ people what's the problem? They don't need to go to these pride events if they don't want to.

Meant to say unopinionated, my goodness

Yes it's Canada where people are allowed to celebrate positive events. A free country. It is not confirming to the national culture is it, and that's what was said wasn't it?

Can schools say that Muslim influences are a definite distraction from embracing peace promotion and reject them in turn? Nah, that's god crap isn't it. Protected bigotry. Maybe Canada should give all those Muslim students a copy of the ten commandments huh? Like Texas.

Not defending the teacher, they didn't handle the situation well but the frustration was that the Muslim students had enjoyed the schools respect of their beliefs and customs during Ramadan and other Muslim holidays and that in fairness attending Pride was respectful to others with different beliefs, just as they had recieved and participated in with others who had different beliefs. Wasn't handled well for sure. And the school is taking action, once again the Canadian system is different than the US and their privacy laws so the Canadians seem to handle issues much less publically. Given that the school has said they are taking steps that is appropriate, not much else to be said.

Indeed, and people can point out that the alleged reasoning is actually religious bigotry.

And then they can argue back to their critics that homosexuality is immoral and against their religion and their religion is given from Allah.

It's a free country. My point is that both sides should just live and let live with their different beliefs and accept they will not agree. No need to stir up a fight. It's not unCanadian to follow your beliefs.

That's exactly what I said but I only needed six words.

I.E. alleged reasoning is actually religious bigotry.

And it's a community who has the right to let those who won't become part of it know that they aren't part of it.

Banning Christmas in schools also raised controversy. But people supported that religious  controversy. Did you support it by any chance?

I'm not clear. Christmas was never celebrated in public schools in any recent times?

What planet are you from?

I've not seen a school that doesn't have a Christmas break up party.

Christmas or Xmas isn't solely Christian anymore. It's a family celebration for many.

I thought everyone did that on their remembrance Day?

Our publically funded ABC supports it every year.

What a load. Cherry was canned for his overt racism, and his refusal to change. Even his son in law Don McLean, who he did the show with distanced himself from him.

That was just the tip of the Don Cherry iceberg. His racist rants were legendary.
