pellinore Posted June 8 #1 Share Posted June 8 (edited) Jodie Comer stopped her one-woman show Prima Facie on Broadway because of breathing difficulties owing to New York’s air crisis. According to eyewitnesses, the award-winning star of Killing Eve, tipped to win a Tony award this weekend, was 10 minutes late for the matinee performance. After three minutes of the show, she announced that she couldn’t proceed. “I can’t breathe in this air,” she said, before being helped off stage. A spokesperson for the show confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that Comer “had difficulty breathing due to the poor air quality in New York City”. Alchopwn Posted June 8 #2 Share Posted June 8 Bad air here in Massachusetts too. I have set up shop in the basement with the dogs, where I have an air filtering system because I am a bit of a prepper. I taped up the cracks inside my house, but you can still smell the smoke outside. Not so in my basement. I think I'll stay here a while, as my respiration isn't the best. 4 1 1 Top

Piney Posted June 8 #5 Share Posted June 8 A couple of days ago a big cloud of smoke filled up the town and the house and all we could smell was burning tires and railroad ties. My wife says "****ing train tracks! Take the truck down, locate it. Call me. I'll call it in. The train tracks were fine. It was coming up from Bass River. Now it's this ****. We have the windows shut and our HVAC fan on, but have a good HEPA filter and a new system so the house is clear. 7 Top
+susieice Posted June 8 #6 Share Posted June 8 My area yesterday had an air quality of 451. This morning it's at 367. Still under red alert so I won't be going outside. I do have the N95 masks if I would. I've had my air on and can't smell it in the apartment but can when I go outside. 4 Top

That's OK with me. Forest fire smoke is not contagious. If MAGAs don't wear masks, it won't affect me. But if they choose suicide, there will be fewer MAGA voters. So I guess it does affect me - but that's OK, too. Doug 3 Top

Doug1066 Posted June 9 #19 Share Posted June 9 28 minutes ago, acidhead said: Just curious... Are you serious? Any massive fire adds CO2 to the atmosphere. Besides wood, buildings often have tar-paper rooves, insulating foam, wire insulators and other materials that add serious pollutants to the air when they burn. Of course, it really takes a big fire (or lots of little ones) to make a measurable difference, but we would be better off without these fires. Delaware is still yellow which is moderate but it should be clearing now. A lot of fires are burning in Quebec which is where this smoke came from. darkmoonlady Posted June 10 #25 Share Posted June 10 Haha I love how the "no such thing as climate change" usual suspects are bringing out older fire reports. Yes we have had fires before, also doesn't mention they didn't have precision teams fighting those fires pre 1950 or so. These fires have suppression teams, hundreds of firefighters working the perimeters, drop tankers putting retardant down, and these fires are still kicking our asses. Because the length of drought is unprecedented, the heat leading up to fires is unprecedented and how do we know? Tree rings, ice core samples with trapped gasses inside showing a rapid increase along with human population growth. And now its accelerated from reaching such high levels of CO2 that its compounding. I've lived in Southern Oregon for 23 years now, a blip on geologic time, but the summers have gotten hotter and stayed hotter longer, while winters have been drier and warmer. We've had summers so smoky it makes NY look like blue sky. We had one summer of fires so bad our air quality map looked like this. 1 Top
