Ministers are being urged to scrap the limit on the number of foreign fruit and vegetable pickers who can come to Britain each year.

An independent review into labour shortages in food supply chains called on the Government to consider 'lifting or removing the cap' on the number of seasonal worker visas.

There are currently 45,000 visas available each year under the seasonal worker scheme, which allow people to come to Britain from abroad for up to six months to be employed as fruit, vegetable or flower pickers.
