Hundreds of teens run riot in Manchester on last day of school as 'eggs hurled at police'

Hundreds of school children have run riot in Manchester city centre on the last day of school, with reports of eggs being thrown at police.

Videos posted on social media showed hundreds of students gathered in the Piccadilly Gardens and Market Street area.

Trams on the Manchester Metrolink were also suspended from Market Street or Shudehill after waves of children ran through Piccadilly Gardens in apparent 'stampedes'.

There were reports shops and restaurants had closed their doors or stationed security outside stopping many from entering.

Councillor for Harpurhey/Collyhurst Pat Karney blasted the behaviour as "disgraceful".

He tweeted: "We all lived for the break up for summer holidays but that’s no reason for this disgraceful behaviour. I presume it’s been organised on social media. We will be seeking an update from GMP."

"It is just disgraceful," he said. "Hundreds of youngsters - we know it is the last day of school, and we have all been there and loved it - but you don’t come down to the centre of Manchester to stop the trams, throw eggs at the cops, and cause mayhem in the area and think that’s fun.

“We will have pictures of these kids - we have a lot of cameras in Piccadilly and the tram stops - and we will be contacting the schools they come from. This will not be allowed in the city centre. We are not putting up with this nonsense.”

Details of the area covered by the dispersal order and the time it will remain in force until have not officially been released by Greater Manchester Police.

I wonder how much longer people are going to ignore the corrosive effects of social media on kids.  There should at least be a means of stopping the close coordination of such gatherings by criminalizing them IF they lead to disruptions or damage.

Kinda funny, TikTok, partially owned by Chinese, is banned in China. Good weapon to subvert Western countries.

There are other ways to celebrate the end of the school year ie throwing a party, going out with friends etc. But acting like an idiot and damaging property is not one of them.
