Axiom Space & ESA To Launch Polish Astronaut On Future Mission

Axiom Space and the European Space Agency (ESA), have signed an agreement to send an ESA astronaut from Poland into space through an upcoming Axiom Space mission. Specific details about the mission and the identity of the Polish astronaut will be formally disclosed at a later point, pending approval from NASA and its international partners.

“Poland will be the second ESA-sponsored nation to send an astronaut on a commercial human spaceflight mission, establishing a growing network of nations in Europe eager to explore the benefits of microgravity and positioning the region as pioneers of commercial space...We are excited to work with Poland and ESA to build a comprehensive mission plan in support of both national and agency objectives, and we look forward to bringing on additional partner nations around the world in an effort to build the human experience in low-Earth orbit.” - Michael Suffredini, President and CEO of Axiom Space

The selected ESA astronaut will center their efforts on scientific research and educational outreach while in orbit.

Sławosz Uznański from Poland to train as a project astronaut at the European Astronaut Centre

As of 1 September 2023, Sławosz Uznański joined ESA as a project astronaut anticipating flying on a future space mission.

Sławosz was selected in November 2022 as a member of the ESA astronaut reserve after a year-long selection process. The 2022 ESA recruitment campaign received more than 22 500 applications from across its Member States.

Sławosz Uznański from Poland will fly to International Space Station on fourth Axiom Space mission

Polish project astronaut Sławosz Uznański is scheduled to fly to the International Space Station on Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4).

Axiom Space announced that it is partnering with India, Hungary, and with Poland through ESA to send three national astronauts to the International Space Station on Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4).

ESA project astronaut Sławosz Uznański has been assigned as mission specialist under the command of Axiom Space’s Chief Astronaut Peggy Whitson.
