Meanwhile the sky is still blue.

Tomorrow will be just like any other day.

The most craziest dangerous thing we have ever done as a species.

Forget wanting our resources, they will be interested in the differences between our civilization and theirs. They will turn up and help themselves to it. What is too much hassle for them to lift they will put us to work producing, as slaves.

What if they have galactic gladiator fights? Some of us might be fighting to the death against other species for their amusement. What if we are tasty to them? We will be farmed as a food source like we do to cows.

What if they are wholly against one or more of our forms of government? Expect a good conquering.

And what if their ships are made out of pepperoni  pizza and fueled by gallons of lambrusco?

Aside from the ‘predicted to arrive tomorrow’ silliness, it’s an interesting article. 1983 wasn’t the first time astronomers sent a message out to a specific region of space.

Using the now defunct Aricebo telescope in Puerto Rico, (a crime against science that it wasn’t rebuilt and repaired) on November 16, 1974 a signal was beamed towards star cluster M-13 in the constellation Hercules. The message in code describes our solar system, the planet Earth, and the life upon it. The chemical basis for life is represented by DNA’s double helix. The final part of the code represents a “picture” of a human being.

Traveling at the speed of light, the signal will take 24,000 years to reach the targeted area.

Yeah unfortunately there won’t be any replies anytime soon, if ever.

The reply could be:

thanks for letting us know you exist= we want your planet.

Well done, you've proved intelligent alien life exists out there-  that would be fun, wouldn't it? :tsu:

They’d take one look at what we’ve done to it and go “WTF HVE YOU DONE TO THE DAMN PLACE!?!!” and run away.

Hollywood (and printed media) has done such a good job at convincing everyone that aliens=evil overlords. It's really amazing actually.

First the aliens (if they exist) might not even get the signal. They could be a 1000 years behind us technologically.

Assuming they are far advance of us they likely would have zero need for slaves or any of our resources. Just look at us. We are developing robots that given a few more decades will likely be able to do most of the work people are doing right now. Resources can be found anywhere if you have the tech. Why bother with invading a planet and all the crap that entails when you grab an asteroid and mine the crap out of it?
