Waspie_Dwarf Posted August 23 Author #4 Share Posted August 23 India has followed the Soviet Union, USA and China as only the 4th nation to successfully land a spacecraft on the Moon. Congratulations ISRO. 3

It will only be useful when we have commercial nuclear fusion, which is decades away, and even then only in some forms of fusion reactor. It's a great excuse for exploiting lunar resources in science fiction, but at the moment, in science fact, not so much. The reason the south polar region of the moon is of so much interest is because there is a far more valuable and useful resource there... water ice.

India has landed a spacecraft on the Moon at the second attempt. Russia has a failure with their Luna-25 spacecraft having successfully manage the feat seven times in the past (including being the first nation to achieve a lunar soft landing in 1966). If that is making Russia look. "crap" then Japan and Israel most also be considered crap as they have both attempted, and failed, to land a spacecraft on the Moon. The USA hasn't even attempted the feat since 1972. Using your logic (and I use the word logic incorrectly where your statement is concerned) China is making everyone look "crap" as they have now achieved sucessful lunar landings three times and are the only nation with a 100% success rate). Hammerclaw is correct, India does have an impressive space programme, but it has not yet achieved a fraction of Russia's
