Polaris Dawn mission likely to slip to 2024

The billionaire backing a series of private astronaut missions with SpaceX says the first of those flights will likely be delayed to some time in 2024.

In a recent interview with the CNBC Manifest Space podcast, Jared Isaacman said preparations were continuing for Polaris Dawn, the first of three missions of his Polaris program announced in early 2022. That mission will fly Isaacman and three others on a Crew Dragon spacecraft that will spend several days in low Earth orbit.

WASHINGTON — The first flight of the Polaris program of private astronaut missions is now scheduled for no earlier than next April, a delay of nearly a year and a half from its original plan.

In social media posts Dec. 9, Jared Isaacman, the billionaire backing the Polaris program and who is commanding the initial mission, said the launch of Polaris Dawn is now scheduled for April 2024.

Polaris Dawn private astronaut mission slips to mid-2024

A private astronaut mission that will feature the first spacewalk from a Crew Dragon spacecraft has suffered another delay, this time to at least the middle of this year.

The Polaris Program, a series of private astronaut missions backed by billionaire Jared Isaacman, announced Feb. 8 that its Polaris Dawn mission was now scheduled for no earlier than the summer. The program had previously announced an April launch date.

SpaceX reveals EVA suit design as Polaris Dawn mission approaches

SpaceX has unveiled long-awaited spacesuits intended for spacewalks that will first be used on an upcoming private spaceflight.

The company revealed the design of the extravehicular activity (EVA) suit on its website and social media May 4. The suit is based on the current pressure suits worn by astronauts on Crew Dragon flights but, unlike those suits, is intended for use on spacewalks.
