Because, as/if God encompasses all things that means He also encompasses suffering and injustice.

You asked why God allowed it … and my answer is “because that’s what God does sometimes” because If God exists and is omnipotent, omniscient and all encompassing, then God must also encompass all the worst things in life as well as all the good. These wishy-washy “God is love” people reduce God, and refuse to accept the full implications of what “all encompassing” means.

Why didn't he save six million of his own people from the Holocaust? Contrary to popular opinion, God doesn't intervene. That's pure fantasy.

No bloody idea. The mind of God is unknowable.

For you, seeing is believing and you don't see him. I don't see him, either, but it's given that something kickstarted the Universe. A series of fantastical but real events had to occur for our galaxy to form, ditto for the solar system. Then a planet of just the right size and at just the right angle smacked the Earth leading to the formation of our binary Earth-Moon system without which macroscopic life as we know it could not have evolved. Then an endless series of unlikely disasters and evolutionary happenstance led the evolution of man. There's only so many times I can clap my hands like a delighted child and cry, "Oh happy chance!" before I start wondering.

Of course, it's chance, if you're an atheist. Anything else implies a directed Universe and the consequent can of worms that opens up. According to science, man is the product of millions of happy chances, without even only one of which, we wouldn't exist.

yeah but why wouldn't that be normal? All these so called chances you refer to are probably normal, not chances- in my opinion

That's a lot of chances. If you really think it's all because of a chance, you would have to think it would have been one chance after another after another.

Kind of like winning the lotto every day of your life.

Which isn't very likely now is it.

I believe that the Creator of all that exists, by virtue of being omnipotent, omnipresent etc etc is fundamentally unknowable by a human being. It’s probably the most weaselly of philosophical positions because it doesn’t require me rationalise why God does a thing beyond “Welll.…. He did”.

Don't ever go to Vegas. "Recently, scientists uncovered an eruption in Indonesia to top all eruptions. Occurring about 74,000 years ago, Toba is considered the most destructive super-eruption -- creating a 100-by-60-kilometer caldera now occupied by Lake Toba, and spreading ash as far away as the Himalayas, 3,000 kilometers to the northwest." The subsequent global volcanic winter was so prolonged so devasting to the global ecosystem, that the already small human population was reduced to a tiny fraction, resulting in a genetic bottleneck. If it had lasted a bit longer, mankind would have been made extinct. Oh, happy chance that didn't happen.
