I don't recall hearing about Morocco having a history of earthquakes but 6.8 is pretty heavy duty :(   I hope those who may be trapped under the rubble can be rescued.  That would be my worst nightmare way of dying.

Just so you know: an asteroid could hit Earth on 21 September 2030

;(

Apart from being wildly off topic that article is also wildly out of date... it's from nearly 23 years ago.

In 2004, four years after the article was written, it was determined that 2000 SG344 has a zero chance of hitting Earth in 2030, passing at a distance of 5,121,080 km (± 380,000 km). There is a 1 in 360 chance that it could hit Earth between 2061 and 2121, but it is a small object comparable with the Tunguska and Chelyabinsk events.

Hope doesn't come into it. We've known, for nineteen years, with absolute certainty, that it won't hit us.

Morocco earthquake: Race against time to save survivors buried in rubble

Quote

Morocco faces a race against time to save those trapped under the rubble by Friday's earthquake, as emergency services battle to supply remote areas.

Villagers continue to dig by hand and shovel to find survivors, as response teams struggle to bring in machinery.

Those same tools may now be needed to prepare graves for some of the thousands killed in the quake.

People "have nothing left," a villager told the BBC. "People are starving. Children want water. They need help."

Friday's earthquake, the country's deadliest in 60 years, struck below a remote cluster of mountainous villages south of Marrakesh.

The government reported that at least 2,122 people were killed and more than 2,421 injured, many critically.

Morocco earthquake: Why authorities accept only limited international help

Quote

Almost as soon as news broke of Friday's earthquake in Morocco, offers of help from around the world came in. But the country has so far been selective in what it has chosen to accept.

A statement on Sunday from the interior ministry said Morocco had "responded in this particular phase to offers of support from the friendly nations: Spain, Qatar, the UK and the United Arab Emirates".

Spain has sent a search-and-rescue unit with sniffer dogs and the UK has deployed a similar team, but there have been questions over why Morocco has been slow to accept other offers.

Morocco earthquake: Villagers' hopes waning in search for survivors

Quote

Rescuers in Morocco have been using their bare hands as desperate search efforts continue for survivors of Friday's powerful earthquake.

A total of 2,681 people are known to have died in the tremor - the country's deadliest in 60 years.

Morocco's government is under pressure to accept more international aid, as rescuers battle with exhaustion.

So far, it has accepted help from only four countries - Spain, the UK, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Morocco earthquake: The teacher who lost all 32 of her pupils

The thoughts of one Moroccan schoolteacher immediately turned to her pupils when she felt the 6.8-magnitude earthquake strike a week ago.

Nesreen Abu ElFadel was in Marrakesh - but Adaseel, the mountain village that was home to her school and pupils, was closer to the epicentre.

The Arabic- and French-language teacher returned to Adaseel where she went searching for the children.

She discovered that all 32 - ranging from six to 12 years old - had died.

"I went to the village and started asking about my kids: 'Where is Somaya? Where is Youssef? Where is this girl? Where is that boy?' The answer came hours later: 'They are all dead.
