Has any private company, research institution, or recreationist reported missing a balloon?

I imagine quite a few research balloons are launched and never recovered normally. Whoever's it was probably assumed it was already gone before it was found and shot down.

Not in this case, the Chinese government was very upset their item was shot down though.

What a load that they can't find these "balloons". Are we supposed to believe that they couldn't mark the co-ordinates after downing them? I'm calling shenanigans.

According to the NWS, about 15,000 radiosondes get returned each year out of 75,000 sent out. The government fixes and reuses returned radiosondes, which saves money.

That is a LOT of balloons that get lost. Those are just weather balloons.

Weather balloons are way high up.  When their skin gets too cold...they disintegrate in a million pieces.  Without a tracking device on the object the balloon was carrying, finding it would be pretty impossible.  Depending on how fast it was going when it was shot down...it could be in a large swath of real estate.

I find this most curious:

The memo reportedly states that the object shot down over the Yukon was in fact the 23rd such object to be tracked over the continent during the first few weeks of 2023.

Say what,,,.? lol 23???

It gained notoriety after the initial balloon had been observed traveling over the CONUS by civilians. Civilians with cellphones.

Still doesn't explain why they haven't found these"balloons". State of the art jets can't mark where something goes down? Right.

Apparently, they didn't have too much of a problem finding that Chinese balloon.

Here another thing. The Canadian Rangers are trained to find things in rough country, but were not called in to search. My youngest brother is one, and can't figure out why they weren't called.

The balloon landed in the water...balloons float.  There is a huge swath of ocean to look in to find what the balloon was carrying.  To date...they haven't found it have they?  Have they?

Why bring down a balloon with a $500k missile instead of using a 20mm cannon which would be cheaper?

Because that wouldn't bring it down.

In 1998 Canada found this out first hand. And received a roasting from the British press about it. Over 1,000 rounds fired and the balloon just kept floating on.

What you are ignoring is the fact the balloon did not burst into a million pieces. Let's remember that you said:

"Weather balloons are way high up.  When their skin gets too cold...they disintegrate in a million pieces.  Without a tracking device on the object the balloon was carrying, finding it would be pretty impossible."

Now, about the lack of a tracking device. Apparently at least one of the objects was carrying some kind of device because F-22 pilots who saw the object said it "interfered with their sensors" and had no propulsion system. How many UFO encounters from around the world have also reported that UFOs affected or jammed their systems as well?

The above quote is what I said...and that is true.   I guess that means that the balloon wasn't that cold.

By tracking device, I am talking about something like Black Boxes from airliners have.  You have UFOs on the brain don't you?  All the time...

Yes, I do have UFOs on my mind because I know the rest of the story in reference to my own firsthand experience and knowledge on the way the government has been covering up UFO cases from the public, which includes former bases where I was assigned. I have also presented tons of data and documentation to make that fact loud and clear and yet I get responses such as blurry videos and photos, which I find unconvincing considering the blurry videos and photos are clear enough to determine that the objects are not aircraft and when the objects in those blurry videos are tied to verifiable data from multiple dissimilar ground-based, ship-based, airborne and space-based surveillance and sensor systems, a determination can be made that excludes the objects as those of mankind.

In addition, I look down on comments that claim that money is the reason why many witnesses revealed what they know about UFOs, but you have to also understand that in doing so, they have placed their own careers and well-being in jeopardy. After all, you have to take a look at what happened recently with David Grusch when his medical records were released to the media and what happened to the Captain of JAL 1628, which can explain why many military and commercial pilots still refuse to issue UFO reports.

Commercial pilots were told not speak publicly about UFOs and had their jobs threatened, expert says

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12342921/Commercial-pilots-told-superiors-not-speak-publicly-mysterious-sightings-threatened-losing-jobs-reported-expert-claims.html

Now, watch this video from a movie and understand that it depicts a situation in reference to UFO encounters that occur on a regular basis in real life and yet, most UFO reports go unreported by military and commercial pilots.
