Why you shouldn't touch rock cairns

What are rock cairns?

Usually, these kinds of rock cairns are built to show hikers the way on particularly confusing routes; you can find them dotted all throughout famous trails like the Camino de Santiago. However, recently cairns have been popping up all over hiking trails, often in groups, usually by particular features or rest stops.

You shouldn't walk on anything but pavement. Walking on natural ground destroys microecosystems and disrupts or ends tiny lives. I won't even start on what bathing does to the microscopic flora and fauna that lives naturally on one's skin. (Says the poster, dripping with sarcasm.) Rock cairns are the least harmful thing hikers do in the wild.
