At what age are we happiest?

Adults love annoying kids by saying things like, “Youth is wasted on the young,” and, “Your school days are the best of your life!” Meanwhile, those young people stare back in disbelief, imagining how much happier they’ll be when they’re free from exam stress and clueless grownups telling them what to do all the time. But can science determine exactly when in our lives we feel happiest?

A team of researchers from Germany and Switzerland recently set out to do just that. Their comprehensive study included over 400 unique samples and a grand total of over 460,000 participants, and looked at how happiness varies over someone’s life course.

I think there are a lot of individual factor that contribute to what one could consider happiness. Though I like the idea of contentment better.

My thought would be 'in your 50's' as you don't usually have the wisdom to be content and happy in your busy tumultuous earlier years. Beyond the 50's the body and brain health become trying and problematic.

My opinion is when you are 2, but I agree with @XenoFish, it is subjective and everyone has a different answer to that question.

I think happiness isn't restricted to being more of one age or another, but rather more of a personal perspective (reality tunnel) viewpoint.

How people view things is probably more important than how old they are when the viewing is done. Although experience and maturity certainly has influence on one's viewpoint.

For instance, some people have to be paid to be good.

But, I do my best to be good for nothin'.

I think being good for nothin' can help one be extremely happy.

If (when) I overhear anyone mentioning how I'm good for nothin', I simply secretly accept the praise and move on.

I do appreciate that it gets noticed sometimes. :D

Regards,

Sojo

My opinion wouldn't be 2. You are buffeted about by events and emotions.

Pprobably depends on how you are treated when you are two.   Like every other age, it depends on the person, the environment and the people involved in your life.

My mid to late 30's were a depressing hell. My 40's haven't been too bad. By 50 I'll not one single frick to give.

A good article. Showing how the peak age is different depending what question or metrics you're using

Personally I haven't noticed much change life has challenges and rewards. I don't live to be happy but do feel content and don't expect much change in attitude for my future contentment.
