Kevin McCarthy ousted as House speaker by Republican rebels

Quote

In a dramatic 216-210 vote on Tuesday afternoon, the House endorsed a “motion to vacate” to in effect fire McCarthy from the speakership. Eight Republicans voted against their party leader and sided with 208 Democrats, sealing his removal from the post.

I didn't think every single Democrat would vote for this.

Not after a bipartisan deal to keep the government open...

Guess they want to play Hardball now.

They just voted for someone FURTHER TO THE RIGHT to take the Speakership. I'd personally vote for Gaetz at this point to show them what they voted for.

idiots.

Irony of it is Gaetz wanted McCarthy out for making a deal with the Ds. But he needed to have all the Ds vote with him to do so.

A vote with Gaetz is the same as voting to shutdown the government.

Idiots.

Quote

The historic vote underscores the sharp divides in the Republican party and threatens to usher in a new era of dysfunction in Washington. The House cannot carry out legislative business until a new speaker is elected.

Yeah, eight Republicans. The Republicans should elect a Dem Speaker to allow all 8 of these guys to be rendered powerless.

Quote

“This is uncharted waters,” said Jim Clyburn, the Democratic congressman from South Carolina. “Nobody knows.”

Uhh, yeah. Created by the Democrats. This guy JUST VOTED for this. He knew he was going to create trouble.

Idiot.

This is a great day!

McCarthy is a dishonorable man.

He promised to release the J6 tapes in exchange for being being elected as Speaker. He broke his promise.

He got the Republicans to vote for the continuing resolution by removing Ukraine from it while simultaneously making a secret side deal with with the Democrats about Ukraine that was only discovered after the fact.

Good riddance.

The partisans who choose to imagine the Republican party hasn't been restructured since the advent of MAGA, simply cannot understand that for Trump Republicans (for lack of a better descriptor), the establishment types (RINOs) are literally seen the same as Democrats and McCarthy was the head RINO.  The establishment types now have a dilemma.  If they form an alliance with Dems, there's a really good chance many of them will be primaried.  If they cannot agree to elect/appoint another Speaker from their conservative members, they leave our government without a 3rd person in line of succession in an emergency.  The Dems will benefit somewhat but the RINOs will get the worst out of this...

Well, I am proud to be a RINO considering the Alternatives! Unlike for too many conservative republicans I will never bow to anyone and kiss their ring!!!!! Its about time for members of the house and the senate to get off their collective knee's and starting thinking about what is best for America, and Trump isn't it!!!!!

Good for Gaetz, and bad for RINOs generally.

It looks like in this event a temporary speaker starts until one is elected. Patrick Mchenery from north Carolina. Based on a list made by McCarthy.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/kevin-mccarthy-ousted-speaker-house-next-steps-rcna118561

So I predict a new speaker won't really be elected and it will be this temp speaker. That way everyone can claim they aren't compromising when picking a new speaker, while functionally everything continues under the temp speaker.

Democrats voted the same way they did when he was first elected speaker. Why would they vote different this time? They don't want him as speaker they want a Democrat as speaker.

If McCarthy stuck to the deal that was struck back in n June then none of this current situation or government shutdown stuff would be happening.

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/29/whats-in-the-debt-ceiling-deal-struck-by-biden-and-mccarthy.html

Democrats voted for the stopgap bill avoiding a government shutdown for 45 days (more Democrats then Republicans voted for this) and compromised by sacrificing Ukraine aide (something strongly supported by democrats) and then McCarthy went on TV and blamed Democrats for the government almost shutting down.

Why would they vote to save his speakership after that? Dems made a big compromise to stop a shutdown just for McCarthy to blame them.

Tens of millions of Americans disagree with you.  That's the reality.  My question to those who've shown that they revile the man to an abnormal degree is, do you still believe in our Republic enough to accept him if he wins next year?

Because man, he is an establishment guy. Regardless of what you see on tv they're all playing on the same team. Didn't you ever watch House of Cards. McCarthy was warned from the beginning not to eff around. He did and found out.

I have with all honesty, stated more than once in the last month that I will except whoever is elected! But, supporting them is another story, I have never blindly bent the knee and kissed the ring of any President in my entire life. Maybe, it's because of my military background, but the only thing I place all my faith in is the Constitution of the United States of America!!!

That document and that document alone is where my heart is, and it's the only thing that keeps my faith in America strong, not any man. Unfortunately, the majority of our Nations population really have no idea what is written in that document, because if they did, they would never bend the knee to any man. The entire purpose of the revolutionary war was to throw off the oppression of Kings, and Dictator's and that was the intent of our founding fathers when they formulated our Constitution!

Oh and by the way, anyone who claims to be the chosen one in any context, should be looked upon with the stink eye because they are way out of touch with reality!!!!;)

Good. They need to be because very few of them have taken their constituents seriously in a very long time.

This House is like the last House,,, controlled by Democrats.

Speaking of which, has anyone seen or heard the *Republican House* pass any laws or bills concerning the correction to the Southern border...?

No...? didn't think so.

I wish. Then all the bipartisan bills passed prior to 2022 would simply be funded instead of brinkmanship around shut downs.
