What a mess.

Why didn't they have to change their name like Washington had to? Just asking.

Kind of ironic when the Redskins changed their name, but it was a Native that designed their logo.

This is the media's agenda. Every now and then a story like this pops up to remind everyone - the media wants us at each other's throats.

And the right-wing media more than any other media because it distracts from real injustices.

Deadspin is a left wing organisation. They were the ones who tried to paint the kid as a racist.

I smell a defamation lawsuit waiting to happen.

Edit: once again the demand for racism outstrips the supply.

I agree with you. It is ridiculous, as a kid we sometimes played Cowboys and Indians, the Indians had headdresses of corrugated carboard with bird feathers stuck in it. Today, it would probably be classed as cultural appropriation, promoting violence, and trivializing cultural history. Sheez.

But in the UK atm we have a right-wing government constantly trying to distract us from their failings through culture wars. The Elgin Marbles nonsense is the latest example.

I hear in the UK that the rightwing has leftist ideologies and the leftwing more rightwing ideologies. Kinda the opposite of the US.

You would think after the whole CNN being sued by the kid that stood there smiling while some gross old man breathed his halitosis breath into his face while beating a drum the media would have the sense to shy away from labeling children or defaming their character based on an image.

You would think that would be the case, but the drive to stir racism is much stronger I guess.

It an attempt to divide people just like they do in politics. If people were united, we would be harder to control.

Well it's not the company, it's the staff. When told to focus purely on sport by G/O, the parent company in 2019, they all threatened to resign.

Entire Deadspin staff resigns in wake of Barry Petchesky’s firing, G/O Media reiterating “stick to sports” mandate

Many of Deadspin’s staffers have now left the company in protest of actions by parent company G/O Media. This week started with G/O Media (part of venture capital firm Great Hill Partners, which bought Deadspin, the former Gawker sites, and other sites including The Onion and The AV Club from Univision back in April) send out a memo Monday reiterating that they wanted the site to only cover sports, a giant contrast to its previous existence. G/O Media also removed a post from Deadspin and Kotaku that featured staffers from across the G/O properties complaining about autoplaying ads on those sites.

Deadspin then featured many of their posts that were not about sports, and long-tenured Deadspin deputy editor Barry Petchesky was fired Tuesday, with G/O Media editorial director Paul Maidment again insisting that the site should “be focused on sports coverage.” Senior editor Diana Moskovitz also announced she was leaving Tuesday. And over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the rest of the staff announced that they were leaving.

As such, are you blaming the right people?

It's extremely difficult to separate news from satire in Clown World. This genius would have a nervous breakdown if he saw a group of White coal miners.

They murdered Martin Luther King after he started an interracial march of sanitation workers. You might be onto something there.

Anyone notice the guy who wrote the Deadspin article is called Carron? This must be the masculine form of Karen

This guy seems to be a professional race hustler.  He once wrote an article calling write folks  "White supremacists" because they attended a sports match the day after a black person was killed by racists.

 There's nothing remotely 'right-wing' about them, haven't you noticed that they sack anybody that goes against their left wing policies? They've even taken Blairs immigration policy and ran with it. they're not called 'blue Labour' for nothing.

Arapahoe High School in Denver got a bee in its war bonnet to change the name to something "less offensive" to native Americans.  That also meant changing its mascot (The Brave).

Hundreds of Arapahos showed up at the board meeting in full regalia to point out that the school was on tribal land and that the agreement specifically stated it was to be called Arapaho High School.  The agreement also required that if the school board changed the name, the agreement would be voided and the school district would have to remove the buildings and restore the land to its natural condition.

Arapaho High School still bears its original name.  And once a year, members of the tribe put on a days' educational program on native American culture and tradition.
