Doc Socks Junior Posted December 1, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2023 With various conflicts raging over the globe, an important figure of US history has passed away at 100. Henry Kissinger leaves behind a towering legacy, chiefly related to his political and diplomatic activities on the world stage during the Cold War. From organizing the carpet-bombing of Cambodia, to sabotaging Vietnam peace talks, to getting a Nobel Peace prize for his part in different Vietnam peace talks, to opening up China....he did a great many things. Born Heinz Kissinger, he reached America at the age of 15 with his family, some of the last Jewish immigrants to get out of Germany, in 1938. Drafted into WWII. Firm advocate of realpolitik, he devoted most of his life to the struggle against the Soviet Union, by any and all means. His political machinations reached into multiple hemispheres and nearly all nations, from Vietnam to Chile. He advocated for limited nuclear war, and later It is perhaps a testament to his actions that the NYT obituary is practically a short book. Kissinger retained influence well into his later years, advising, being visited by, and offering opinions to multiple presidents and other political figures. The most common name for him, now, seems to be war criminal. +and-then Posted December 1, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2023 My favorite Kissinger quote was hilarious. He was asked how he always had some eye-candy with him and he said "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac" He must have been correct because Lord knows that man was fugly even in his youth
