I knew an old timer that got tats in the Navy during WWII. They looked like Rorschach inkblots in his elder years.

My stepfather's Saigon tats were blobs in the 80s.

Seemed like a good place to put this. I'm not the greatest fan of tattoos, but this astounded me.

I haven't a clue why somebody would pay for scars. I get them for free.

I don't have my ears pierced

I don't have my eyebrows pierced

I don't have my nipples pierced

What the hell is wrong with me?!

I don't have any tattoos

And I don't like people zoos

I just wanna sit and sing the blues

What the hell is wrong with me?!

I don't have pierced ears either, and I'm a ****ing Indian.

I can't understand why anyone would want a fuzzy toilet seat on their face either and I'm a logger.

But "ranch boy rules" and a Scott airpack negates any face fuzz.

I do have @jocs hairstyle though. 😉

I had a goatee once but shaved it off because I had a patch of gray on 1 side. Nothing like a clean shave to feel the air on the face.

I had a beard in prison because the razors sucked and having open cuts is a bad idea.

These were quite nicely done and enjoyed viewing them HOWEVER aside from the fact that all these restorations were exceedingly expensive there is another problem is that after some point they too will lose their luster as the skin ages and sheds cells; it will look faded and drab.

All I ever had was pierced ears long ago but eventually let them heal over as it was a pain trying to keep track of the posts I had and keeping them clean while making sure to put them in almost every day to prevent them from healing over.

So I just did away with it.

I wonder how people can afford this stuff.

I like how people try and outdo each other with tatts. Used to be only for tough guys but now that young girls have them the bikies tattoo their faces. They also shave their legs and bodies 🤣. Scary scary.

I don't see an issue with the shaving because if someone tires of it the hair can grow back and no harm is done but tattoos are not so easily dealt with. There are undoubtedly many ways to eliminate a tattoo but all are costly and probably just as damaging to the skin as the tattoo itself.

But I agree that for many people these tattoos seem to be a sort of competition to see who is more outrageous or something.

I mean, sure, you can do whatever you want to your body but there will be consequences and some are not so easy to reconcile with.

It's a generational fad...like Rock Music.  How long did Rock and Roll rule the airwaves?  Now...not so much...there actually are no 'airwaves' to rule.  It's all about streaming and video clicks.

So, eventually...and thank god, I think we are almost there...the end of it all...the end of the tattoo and piercing era.  When Johnny says, Hey Ralphy...I was thinking about getting a tattoo...let's go together.  And Ralphy says, No way!  What, so I can look like Mom and Dad and Granny?  And that's the end of the era.  Just like one day...all the kids said the same thing about hair...zip...it was gone.

Or Dad says to Ralphy, So what kind of tattoo you gettin' for your 18th birthday?  And Ralphy says, Why would I get any tattoo...so I can look like you and Ma?  pffft

Well, there will always be people who get tattoos to some degree or another but I think the issue is the attention it is given. Granted many are very artistic but to spend so much resources on putting that on the skin when it will fade and get distorted when you can preserve it by making it into a piece to hang on a wall seems a better option.

I don't know..I suppose being female influences my perspective but it is true that things like this get turned into a fad and so many want to be 'unique' to the point that they really end up being like everyone else who sports a flamboyant tattoo...depends on how one was raised and what sort of environment they were immersed in. Maybe...

Maybe...it's becoming a trendy here today and gone tomorrow thing.  Like green hair...and nose rings...eventually someone goes...Ewww no!  and that's it...but then again, it's a possibility that it's just my projection of my own personal desires for society to grow up...it may never..because...the other side of maybe is always maybe not.

Therein lies the issue is someone making it trendy.

I understand that some kids and adults want to try something new and if they are surrounded by people who basically cheer them on without interjecting a voice of reason then it is no wonder that you have groups that think neon hair, tattoos that cover the body, body piercings and mutilations is SO cool and get upset when others point out their folly and try to point out that these things will be nothing but a roadblock to employment in anything other than a fast food clerk or cashier at wally World.

They don't want to be told that if they want to work in, say, a medical clinic, no one is going to take them seriously and on top of that many corporations do not want a wannabe punk rocker to represent them in any manner save for maybe filing stuff out of sight of potential customers.

In my view the best way to diffuse these 'fads' is to not even acknowledge them to begin with. Don't even fall for the 'shock value' aspect and if it is a kid living under your roof you just keep on reminding them what is expected of them.....

Anyway...tattoos can be nice but the huge ones that are more tatt than skin will invariably pose some problems later regardless of the artistic value.

Another reality is that, Birds of a feather flock together...neon hair, tattoos, etc are VERY COOL if  you are on drugs at a rave party.  Aside from that...eventually most tattoo shops will probably be owned by one or two corporations and then they will be Pushing the Trendy.  Big Pharma, Big Tobaccoo, Big Tats.Tattoo  no pun  intended

I think tattoos are important to some indigenous peoples and certain sectors of the western communities. The thing is, Maoris look the part with facial tattoos were white wanna be tough guys look ridiculous and look like their two year old kid has scribbled on their faces. They also become a target for law enforcement so it's stupid on many levels. They are trying to say, stay away, I'm dangerous, the problem is a bit of ink won't save you in jail.
