WVK Posted December 15, 2023 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2023 Artificial intelligence is more likely to save humanity than to destroy it, Jeff Bezos said recently. The billionaire also said he would like to see the human population grow to one trillion, with most people living in huge cylindrical space stations. In an interview with podcaster Lex Fridman, the Amazon AMZN, +1.73%founder and former CEO rejected the idea that humans should colonize other planets, saying he believes building space colonies is the only way to achieve such population growth. “I would love to see a trillion humans living in the solar system. If we had a trillion humans, we would have, at any given time, 1,000 Mozarts and 1,000 Einsteins,” he said. “The only way to get to that vision is with giant space stations. The planetary surfaces are just way too small.” https://www.marketwatch.com/story/jeff-bezos-plays-down-ai-dangers-and-says-a-trillion-humans-could-live-in-huge-cylindrical-space-stations-78058437 1

Living in a space station is much more detrimental to human biology, and overall considering everything would need to be recycled it would be pretty nasty too. Dejarma Posted December 16, 2023 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2023 anyone can say that.. I can say that- here ya go: Dejarma says one trillion humans could live in huge cylindrical space stations. Anyone can say loads of things- here ya go, here's another one: eeeer, just thinking, give me a minute........................... Right yeah= a thousand humans could live IN the moon. oh joy

Are you putting $billions of your own wealth into making such plans happen? If the answer to these questions is no then when Bezos says it his words carry vastly more credibility than when you say it.

JIMHO That maybe a great idea in a science fiction novel, but in the real world it's totally unrealistic. The fastest spacecraft we currently have would take tens of thousands of years to reach even the nearest star. We don't have the technology to reach for the stars just yet, but we already have space stations. Even when we do have such technology the journey times will be decades or centuries, meaning that the very objections you have to space station life will exist for those venturing to these exoplanets. By the time we are capable of star travel we could already have the future Bezos envisages.

And why did you feel a need to say ^this^ to me AFTER i've said it was just a bit of banter? you obviously have a problem with something/ somewhere somehow😕 eeer what is it? just out of interest

I realize that we currently do not have the ability to travel vast distances in our solar system or our galaxy. My comments were based upon the fact that we should spend more time and resources to find habitual planets and moons using our current technology which is space telescope displays. In my opinion the odds of mankind every traveling at light speed are slim, however, I do believe that an Einstein-Rosen bridge (wormhole) is a theoretical possible in the not-too-distant future. Since it has been proven that extreme gravity created by large heavy objects has the ability to bend / fold Space Time I think our scientific community invest more funding to increase our knowledge of the subject. I believe the future of deep space travel will depend upon our ability to control and guide wormholes and I understand we have a very long way to go, but eventually this technology will be within our grasp and hopefully sooner rather then latter. Cho Jinn Posted December 17, 2023 #11 Share Posted December 17, 2023 We’ll have planet colonies long before giant O’Neil cylinders. They don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
DreadLordAvatar Posted December 18, 2023 #12 Share Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) Will never happen. Humanity is so flawed, just look at the world we live today. Absolutely disgusting. The mega rich like Bezos and first world governments are all in it for themselves. Narcissism, greed, corruption never changes. We are beginning to sound like a scummy renter aren't we? Trash our house and rather than fix it up, just move. I wonder if a renter that trashes his first house learns a lesson or just repeats his behavior?
MissJatti Posted January 1 #14 Share Posted January 1 (edited) To have a trillion people living in a space station, that space station would be bigger than the size of our sun. We would need schools, libraries, football stadiums and all that, (ect etc) for humans to survive, even in space, and by that time another trillion people..........!!!
