Sleep paralysis and the power of words

news icon rRhiannon Coppin: You forget how powerful words can be until you wake up one night completely paralysed, unable to control your lungs, and overwhelmingly incapable of calling for help. When I was 16 years old and only mildly under the romantic influence of science fiction shows like The X-Files, and alien abduction movies like Fire In the Sky, I woke up in the middle of the night convinced that I was under the influence of some alien force.

whoa....you have just describe what i went through around the same age i was. instead of two figures holding me down, there was one figure above my head. everything else you described was to the "T."

back then, my mom slept beside me and i remember trying so hard to get her attention. right before i snapped out of it, i felt my mom get up and walked to the bathroom. the lights turned on and i can see it even though my eyes were shut. i knew i was awake and i knew i was back into the comfort of my own bedroom, so i started relaxing my body and mind and ....i just opened my eyes and sat up.

Sleep paralysis, Astral projection

The paralysis is your body putting chemicals into you to make you not move in case you act out your dreams

The shadows is probably just your mind

Though I am sure the Author is correct, it reads as if the Sleep Paralysis was a self diagnoses after hearing of it. It may give him peace of mind, but I think a Doctors Diagnosis ( one specializing in sleep disorders) would be better. Otherwise another medical term ( Hypochondria) comes to mind. yes.gif

Sleep paralysis has nothing to be afraid of after you get to know that it's fully related with sleep phenomena. When i was teenager falling to sleep i had few times when i felt myself departing from my body and moving over the edge of bed. It was terrifying experience for me then and i started to pray madly until i was able to move my body again.

Now with more knowledge about this natural phenomenon, i actually anticipate it and expect it during my daytime naps, because it's great tool for so called "out of body experiences", or "astral travelling". It's when your body has fallen to sleep (and becomes paralysed), but your mind is still awake. It's then good time to try to separate your dream body from your physical body to take a "astral trip", or "lucid dream". So if you feel sleep paralysis, then stay peaceful and imagine a rope near your body. Take this rope with your dream body, and imagine yourself climbing out from your physical body by using this rope. There are also other methods. And when you are out of your body try to get visuals so your lucid dream can begin. For example say out loud: "Increase light! Increace lucidity!", or smt.

Remember - in many cases it's purely lucid dream what you will experience, and it's not harmful. Although some people claim to be "really" out of body, in many cases it's purely a dream in your mind ;o)

In my family the opposite happens. While dreaming my boys walk, talk, and some time cook meals, and eat them all while sound asleep. When my youngest woke up with a full stomack and pizza sauce on his face he thought he was going crazy!

Sleep paralysis happened to me on a couple occasions and those instances happened when I was young.

I remember waking up abruptly and all I could feel was a force pushing down on me and I was helpless. I was so terrified being young and not knowing what was happening to me. I remember looking up at the ceiling and it felt like as if the ceiling was coming down on me. I could see a sort of vortex thing.. like the stars screen saver goin' at light speed. Then all of a sudden it was over with and I could move again. It terrified me for the rest of the night 'til I fell asleep again.

I'm convinced I was astral travelling. It happens with dreams where the surroundings don't jump around and change on you. Like the dreams that feel so real and when you wake up you wish it was real. But I woke up so fast that my spirit didn't get back into my body quick enough so as a result I was paralyzed for that moment.

Weird stuff I tell ya.

I can neither prove nor disprove the validity of an OOBE, but I can say this much. "Lucid Dreaming" and "Out Of Body Consciousness", are two distinct entities.

One way that I have determined to verify if one is truly in an "Out Of Body" state, is to simply look into a mirror, when experiencing an OOBE. Without exception, I have never seen a "reflection", when truly in the non - physical reality, or as many prefer to call it, the "Astral State".

Personally, I have come to view this non - physical, state of being, as an electromagnetic - abberration or anomaly, of the life force, (electromagnetic -energy).

For some, the brain can produce enough electromagnetic - flux, to alter physical reality, to see auras, other dimensional - beings, dissolve clouds from the atmosphere, et al.

It is really just a matter of focusing the electromagnetic - energy, within the human brain, then channelling it to produce the desired result.

It is not a matter of "meta - physics", but more a matter of "quantum - physics".

Still ... it is pretty darn exciting.

To me what i know about sleep paralysis is not alien abduction. It will happen when ur mouth open very wide when sleep. When u sleep in this way ur saliva will be evaporate very fast.So at that mention when u wake up.Ur brain will be hard to send signal to ur whole body. And because of this u will not be able to move ur body.

It happen only when lack of water and oygen. So when u wake up u need to breath in more oygen.Brain need water and oygen to send signal to ur whole body.If lack of these things u will experience sleeping paralysis.

Just look at the picture post on this topic and it can explained it.When u sleep in this way ur mouth will be open wide and saliva will be evaporate fast.Follow by is the air way will be block as ur head(forehead) pointing downward when u sleep.

Because i does explained this sleep paralysis few times before so i know it's not alien abduction. So to get always this sleep paralysis is to sleep on side way and not ur eyes both pointing to the roof.Or don't sleep with the mouth open.

Why u see shadow forcing or press on u is the brian hurricanes. To support my explain is if a person is walking in a desert without water. He will have hurricane as the brian is lacking of water. yes.gif

So this is all brain problems when something is lack of.Mental hospital people why can see or hear strange shadows and sounds is because some vitamins is lack for the brian to function well.To cure it.The right medicine will be needed.

It's just like if brian is lack of water and oygen .Hurricanes will be created by the brian.Or should i say confusion of the brain to create fault imagesand sounds. happy.gif

i hope this explained sleep paralyse tongue.giftongue.gif

Roger, I'll tell ya mad.gif ... unless you have experienced this you have no idea how scary this is when it happens. It's happened to me and it is terrifying. You wake up and you can't move... at all. You wake up thinking that you are permanently paralyzed. The author was right on, every detail as exactly as it happens to me as well. Call me crazy, but I know what happened and I'm not a hypochondriac. I've seen this topic on this board many times and there are so many people out there who have the same problem.

I've posted this link before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis but I think it helps us understand this a little better. As nicely as I can say it, please don't be so negative. People come here to find answers and you accuse them of being hypocondriacs for something you've never experienced. There's a lot of us who have experienced this and its a recurring problem. crying.gif

blush.gif Sorry! A bad choice of words. I admit I have no experients with sleep paralysis. I do how ever suffer from Sleep Apnea, were I stop breathing for long lengths of time, depriving my body of oxygen, till the instinct of preservation kicks in and I wake gasping for breath. Needless to say Sound Sleep was impossible.

After a long time in self denial, I went to a sleep specialist, who confirmed the problem, and I now sleep with a machine that pumps 18 psI of air through my nose while I sleep. Talk about getting used to new things, this took some getting used to. But I can now sleep soundly all night long.

So what I meant to say earlier is if you have a sleeping disorder, don't simply except it. See a Doctor ASAP. Some sleep disorders can cause an early Death if not treated.

Again apologies if I offended. English allows people to communicate many ideas, but few can say they are masters of the language. no.gif
