Israel accuses UN staffers of involvement in Hamas' Oct 7 terror attacks

What we know about Israel’s allegations against UN staffers in Gaza

The main UN agency in Gaza is in turmoil after Israel accused some of its staff members of involvement in Hamas’ October 7 terror attacks.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has fired several employees in the wake of the allegations, which have not been made public. The US and several other countries have also paused funding to the organization, which employs around 13,000 people in Gaza, as humanitarian disaster spirals in the besieged Palestinian enclave.

In a statement issued Sunday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said nine of the 12 UNRWA staff members at the center of the allegations had been fired. One other was dead and the identities of two others were still “being clarified.”

I can easily imagine it to be true - if an Aussie journalist (or was it a member of rhe aid agency?) can say “I know exactly who to talk to in order for Hamas to hear so things get done” (implying everyone knows who is who) then a degree of “you scratch our back because we know where you sleep” might go on.

I mentioned the following in another topic thread, but it bears repeating here: The UNRWA has long been accused of antisemitism. Not only have some of its teachers glorified Hamas' October 7 terrorist attacks, many are also hiding Hamas terrorists in some of their schools. The UNRWA has also passed aid intended for Gaza's citizens over to Hamas. It's clear where some UNRWA's staff members' loyalties lie. It does not surprise me in the least that some of them also participated in the October 7 terrorist attacks.

Of note from the news article cited below:

A senior Israeli official told the Axios news site that the Shin Bet and the IDF provided information that pointed to the active participation of UNRWA staffers along with the use of the agency’s vehicles and facilities in the October 7 terror onslaught.

“This was strong and corroborated intelligence,” the official told Axios. “A lot of the intelligence is a result of interrogations of militants who were arrested during the October 7 attack.”

Not only that but the Hamas infiltrators in the UN Agency have been embezzling UN funds, likely with UN connivance.

I wasn't aware of that, but it doesn't surprise me. The UN has a long history of fraud, theft and misappropriation of funds, embezzlement and a myriad of other financial crimes. Why countries have continued to fund it is beyond me. Given what recently happened with Israel, and the subsequent suspension of funding by several countries upon learning their money was used to fund Hamas' terrorist activities, one would hope that everyone finally sees what a corrupt organization the UN really is.

It also gives some insight into possibly explaining why close to two hundred UNRWA workers have "perished in the bombing".  They were probably double-dippers, getting salaries from the UN and Hamas.  No doubt some of them were actually involved in the fighting.  IMO, the only innocents in Gaza are the children.  I didn't feel that way at the outset but polling has shown that between 75-80% of the population there support Hamas and it's even higgher in Judea and Samaria (so-called West Bank).  These people are committed to the deaths of every Jew in Israel and they cannot ever be expected to coexist.  If the world were interested in peace they'd be demanding a summit to discuss forcibly removing and resettling these people to Jordan and or Egypt.  They won't of course, because that isn't their goal.  They don't give a damn about Palestinians or their suffering except to use it as a cudgel against the Jews of Israel.

So far about 25,000 Gazan children are now orphans after their parents were killed in Israel’s U.S.-backed(Zionist-Biden) bombing campaign.

We now have more details of the UNRWA employees' involvement in the October 7 massacre. The articles also outline how these employees were caught. Just 12 employees thus far, but I suspect there are others who have yet to be identified.

UNRWA workers accused of kidnapping woman, taking part in kibbutz massacre

Employees of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees kidnapped Israelis, transported ammunition and the body of a dead soldier, and took part in a murderous assault on a kibbutz on October 7, according to a report published late Sunday.

The details, attributed by The New York Times to a dossier provided to the US government, are behind the decision by the agency, UNRWA, to fire 12 workers and prompted many countries to halt their funding for the body over the weekend.

The following Twitter thread contains evidence from a Telegram group of 3,000 UNRWA teachers in Gaza who praise Hamas' October 7 massacre.

And there's more

UN aid agency members supplied Hamas with RPGs, took Israeli woman hostage during Oct. 7 attacks, damning intel finds

The United Nations aid agency staffers accused of taking part in Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack on Israel included some who provided rocket-propelled grenades — as well as others who actively killed and kidnapped Israelis, according to a damning dossier of intel given to the US.

At least 10 of the 12 fired last week by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) were active members of Hamas, while another was affiliated with the Islamic Jihad, according to the dossier obtained by the New York Times.

Israeli officials said they tracked the movements of UN aid workers on the day of the attack, using phone records and phone calls.

As well as using the agency as a cover, the terrorists worked by day as teachers and other school employees, according to the dossier, which gave names for the staffers that were not published by the Times.

They found that at least one was told via text message to bring rocket-propelled grenades he kept at his house

So all going according to Hamas's plan then.  Every single death on both sides can be laid at the feet of Hamas.

An Den?  An What?  Blame the victim all you like but you've admitted you have no solution other than to stop Israel from fighting back.  You don't accept their right to self defense unless they can defend themselves without killing Hamas' human shields.  I wonder, would you really be that upset if Hamas was in a postion to eradicate all the citizens of Israel?  Because your demand would make that situation inevitable at some point and you seem fine with that.  Does it ever cross your mind to demand Hamas surrender to stop the war?  I don't recall you ever saying that so that means you actually support them or at least hold them to a different standard.

FINISH THE JOB, IDF...

I did not know that the majority of UNRWA's more than 30,000 staffers in Gaza (and the rest of the Middle East) are Palestinians. Five bucks says there are way than just the 12 involved in the October 7 massacre.

The dossier is quite damning, and knowing now the extent of their atrocities, I'm livid that all these UNRWA employees got was a mere slap on the wrist.

Israeli intel shows 10% of UNRWA workers in Gaza have ties to terror groups — report

Israeli intelligence assesses that some 10% of all UNRWA employees in Gaza have ties to terror organizations, in addition to at least 12 employees it says were involved in the October 7 terror onslaught in southern Israel, according to a new report.

The Wall Street Journal said Monday that intel Jerusalem shared with the US indicated that of the roughly 12,000 Gazan employees of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, some 1,200 have ties to either Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The report further stated that around 50% of the UN agency’s employees in Gaza have at least one close relative with ties to the terror groups.

Going to go out on a limb and say it's bad that these employees are connected with a terror organization.

The Israelis should have arrested those they have evidence on.  They should be tried and if their faces are on any videos showing they were involved in killing, they should be executed.  ANY Hamas member who can be proven to have taken part in the brutality should have the same fate.

I'd be more surprised if there wasn't any Hamas members who were also working in Gaza for the UNRWA.

Hopefully this gets sorted sooner than later to prevent anymore unnecessary loss of innocent life.

Yea , twelve sounds like small number , wouldn't be surprised if it was far more.

Interesting that casualty figures from Hamas are definite lies, even when they tally with other estimates, but unfounded claims about UNRWA from Israel are definite facts.

Look, regardless of the occasional example of corruption, the UN does valuable international work.  As for funding the UN, while it has been relegated to an irrelevance by the veto power, the fact remains that the world is a more peaceful place because of it.  If we are going to have a world government, it is for the best that it is toothless, don't you agree?

What evidence has Israel provided?

"Israeli intelligence says it based its allegations on cellphone data showing movements inside Israel on Oct. 7, calls inside Gaza to discuss the Hamas attacks and text messages ordering UNRWA workers to report to specific locations on Oct. 7 — including one that told an employee to come equipped with rocket-propelled grenades that had been stored in his home, according to the Times."

"Other Western governments have yet to independently verify Israel’s claims, but “American officials say they found them credible enough to warrant suspending aid,” according to the Times. As for the U.N., it condemned “the abhorrent alleged acts” and fired nine of the accused workers. Two others are reportedly dead, and the last is still being identified as part of an ongoing investigation by the U.N.’s Office of Internal Oversight Services."

When one of the combatants in a war give casualty figures that hundreds are dying daily, AND they also claim ALL OF THEM are civilians, it would be ridiculous not to mistrust them.  There is no media within Gaza or any outside it ftm, who are interested in trying to verify the numbers.  As for accepting the allegations against UNRWA, the evidence was enough to cause several countries to stop aid, at least temporarily.  UNRWA workers are not primarily UN workers from NY.  They are Palestinians who are hired from within Gaza and Judea and Samaria.  IOW, part of the same demographic where 80% support Hamas.

Let's correct the emphasis there.

They haven't provided this data. Just claimed their allegations are based on it.

The UN fired 9 of them.  Why would they do that?  Considering the overall push by Western nations to force Israel to stop the war, don't you find it odd that several of them would support Israel in this unless the evidence they were shown was credible, or do you have to see it yourself for it to be so?  If so let's be clear, that's not a criticism of validity, it's just a criticism of the entity providing the evidence.

Blinken says evidence of UNRWA staffers’ Oct. 7 involvement ‘highly, highly credible’

The evidence provided by Israel alleging that roughly a dozen UNRWA staffers participated in Hamas’s October 7 terror onslaught is “highly credible,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday, as media outlets published additional details on the implicated employees, including photos from an Israeli dossier.
