Britain's destroyers have GYMS where missiles should be - because they are too expensive

Nothing works in the UK anymore.

Britain's £6billion fleet of Royal Navy destroyers have gyms where land attack missiles should be due to the weapons being too expensive to buy.

The lack of weapons on the Type 45 warships has raised concerns the Navy is falling even further behind the United States, with drastic shortages of sailors also prompting warnings.

The warships were created to house the Mark 41 Vertical Launching System installed in their bows, enabling them to launch cruise missiles, but are instead accommodating treadmills.

The space has only been used as a gym for crew because the Navy did not obtain the weapons due to them being too expensive, The Telegraph reported.

The Ukraine War will sort this problem out.  We are already seeing the development of increasingly inexpensive alternatives to missiles.  Now, we have seen that any anti-air defense can be overwhelmed by a saturation attack, but that requires cheap and relatively small missiles to work as a tactic.  We have marvelous examples of what not to do courtesy of the Russian Black Sea fleet.  US Phalanx systems seem like a pretty good answer to a lot of interception issues, but when combined with anti-missiles their value is even better.  Of course this leads to a very bloated magazine.

While I am a loyal Tory, to criticise their economic policies they never seem to realise the connection between spending more and creating demand. But when doing so it needs to be done tactfully to keep a decent amount of the money being spent going around and around the UK economy rather than drifting overseas.

Defence spending needs to step up from 2.1% to 5%. While an extra 50,000 soldiers would be good most of it needs to be spent on military assets.
