Donald Trump says he would encourage Russia to attack Nato countries who don’t pay ‘bills’

Seeking a second presidency as the Republicans’ presumptive 2024 White House nominee, Donald Trump has said he would “encourage” Russia to attack any of the US’s Nato allies whom he considers to have not met their financial obligations.

So, if Putin does as Trump says and starts attacking NATO countries and those countries retalliate and start smashing Russia into oblivion . . . will Trump send US forces to support Russia?

C'mon Trumpers.  Defend this one.  This is one of the craziest things he has ever said.

Trump's election campaign is not going down very well this side of the Pond. The BBC mentioned this morning his claim that he'd like Tucker Carlson as VP.

Le Monde has previously said: ...the trials targeting the ex-president must take place, starting with the one concerning the disputed results of the 2020 presidential election. It is no longer a question of the simple spite of a sore loser. Trump is taking revenge against all those who did not blindly follow him at that moment the program for his eventual return to power. The "stolen election" conspiracy theory has become the motto for a cult that is devastating the concept of democracy in the US.

For anyone in Europe now to openly say they support Trump is tantamount to declaring yourself a traitor. Step forward Nigel Farage.

Why would deadbeat countrys support Trump?:

The number of NATO nations meeting or exceeding the alliance's spending target has continued to fall, according to the latest official estimates. The UK is one of only eight nations out of 30 believed to be hitting the target and remains fourth in the list of proportional spending. NATO sets alliance members the aim of spending 2% of their gross domestic product (GDP) on defence.

We're 7 years on with listening to his hyperbole and taunting and still you guys try to take everything he says LITERALLY.  He talked a lot of **** in 2016  about NATO.  Did we pull out?  Did he, in fact, change ANYTHING about the way we operated within that alliance?  SMH... this guy isn't that difficult to understand IF you have a desire to do so.  OTOH, if you take your cues from media and you parse every syllable to see just how much you can go full panic mode then you'll never lack for hysteria.  Frankly, it gets boring.  You folks need to grow the hell up.

Good point. I just looked this up:

As a share of its GDP, Poland is the biggest defense spender in NATO, budgeting 3.9 percent in 2023. The U.S. is second, spending 3.49 percent, followed by Greece at 3.01 percent, Estonia at 2.73 percent, and Lithuania at 2.54 percent. Luxembourg, at 0.72 percent, is the smallest spender, followed by Belgium at 1.13 percent, Spain at 1.26 percent, Turkey at 1.31 percent, and Slovenia at 1.35 percent.

You forgot Canada. We rank among the lowest military spenders in NATO and currently have no plan to meet the (flawed, false metric) 2% of GDP target which, throughout most of its history, has been more of a suggestion than an actual target anyway.

Not too worried about Russia attacking us though, even though they've hated us since 1972.

Trump doesn't talk like a politician.  Good or bad.

The context is really simple.  The US is subsidizing NATO and member countries aren't paying their fair share.  All he is saying is the members who aren't paying into NATO as agreed might need to suffer the consequences.  Of course, he is using a lot of hyperbole to get his point across.

Reminds me of a scene in The Wire (the greatest TV show ever).  One of the major drug dealers set up a co-op of sorts where all the dealers worked together.  There was one dealer who didn't want to join the co-op as he didn't see the benefit.  In this scene, the head of the co-op is sharing info he heard through his contact in law enforcement about a pending drug bust on a non-member.  The guy he is trying to convince to join starts to see the benefit when the head of the co-op says he had no incentive to warn to other dealer since he was not a member.

There are seven European countries spending more than 2% of GDP on defence -  US, UK, Poland, Greece, and the three Baltic States.

Major economies taking advantage of us include Germany, Italy, France, and Spain. Its not just taking advantage of the US but the rest of us paying our way too. Its gotten so ridiculous they really expect us Brits to go through conscription to plug their military void if Russia goes for it. Hell will freeze over before us Brits go to die for them.

Go Trump!
