He was very brave to return after he had been poisoned. The international verdict is that he has been murdered.

Yep. And I'm really surprised he lasted this long. It's the blatancy of all their obvious murderous acts that surprises me even more though.

I think we need to slow down a bit on this one.

He has a history of being on hunger strikes so might have done himself some health damage. In recent times they had to treat him with vitamins indicating negative health effects.

It is notable that he repeatedly went against the Russian State and released a book titled `Plotting the new Russia`. As he was a subversive element there is the plausible possibility that the Russian government has punished him with the ultimate penalty. But we will never know for sure.

The cause of death is a blood clot.

"But that was ridiculed by Moscow specialist Alexander Polupan, who treated Navalny in the past, who said that kind of diagnosis could only be made from a post-mortem examination."

"Navalny's close aide Leonid Volkov cautioned that there was no way to confirm what had happened but said the prison authorities' statement amounted to a confession that they had killed him."

Don`t lie, he was walking up some stairs with a gun, tripped, and shot himself 5 times in the head.

My respects to this great Russian hero who like Boris Nemtsov, championed democracy and free speech, and attained martyrdom doing the same.

Hopefully, this will show that not all Russians are pro-Putin and there are potent opposition voices as well.

Generalizing all Russians as evil and tyrannical, as some are doing,  is clearly infantile and short-sighted, and suggests propaganda and cleverly crafted narratives to manipulate the thought process of intended victims.

This is an exact reflection of my thoughts as well.  It’s almost like a dark comedy, Putin and his regime are straight out of a 70’s Bond movie.

I didn't get why he went back. I know from the exile is difficult but what has he really achieved in Siberia all this time other than preventing others to follow his footsteps and gain 'traction' because everybody was focused on him?

Germany has a huge Russian community. He could have done more from here, I'd assume.

Shoulda woulda coulda. Difficult character, good journalist and good politician (maybe would have been), but ideologically not my ilk of choice.

Still sad. He was for sure murdered obviously. Interesting timing.

Russian state media tend not to give much or any airtime to critics of the government, and their initial treatment of Alexei Navalny's reported death continues in this vein.

On state TV channels, the media outlets with the biggest audiences in Russia, there has been minimal coverage of Navalny's death, and the first reports were largely slow to come and perfunctory.

On two of the most popular channels - Channel One and Rossiya 1 - it took almost 45 minutes and an hour respectively after the announcement, before it was mentioned.

These reports provided no contextual information of who Navalny was, nor why he was in prison.

On social media, however, it is quite a different picture.

Alexei Navalny's team says his body is purposely being withheld by the Russian authorities so they can "cover traces"

A spokesperson for the Russian activist, who died on Friday, says his mother and lawyer went to the morgue where officials said his body was being kept, but it was not there

Kira Yarmysh also said Navalny's team believed he had been murdered and that the killing was ordered by President

Russian authorities won`t release his body.

They have retained it for chemical checks expected to take two weeks. To me it sounds like they have him on life support, not because there is any chance of him coming back to live, but to give his body the chance to expel the nerve gas.

Yes it's Fake.

After seeing that his body would be retained for two weeks for chemical tests I went onto Russian news sites to find its just toxicology like what happens with every death.

We have already made up our mind he was murdered with no evidence.

Why would a body be retained  for 2 weeks for chemical tests?  Is this normal in the UK, Australia, Romania, or Mauritius?  Sounds high suspect to me

In the UK if someone unexpectedly dies then yes we do toxicology tests as well as an autopsy.

It cannot be Novichok because if it was and they had his corpse on life support waiting for his body to remove the nerve gas then it takes longer than two weeks.

In the UK we dont murder people in Prison.  And when someone dies in suspicious circumstances the inquiry is fully open, the family are informed and it doesn't take 2 weeks.

BTW I assume if it was novichok then he probably administered it himself

In the UK any unexpected death is investigated including toxicology tests looking for drugs, alcohol, poison, chemicals, etc.

We literally have no evidence on the cause of his death. The easiest way to get away with popping him off would be to handcuff him to the cell railings and then give him a fatal dose of insulin. Its is far less risky than using nerve gas which would put the prison staff and medical personnel at risk. Its too reckless.

It may be a natural death, the guy had been on hunger strike and had to be taken to hospital for vitamin treatment. He may have damaged his heart.

Hi Cookie

Yes it is a few people making speculations and not everyone so not much to get over. He is dead end of story for the west as it has no impact on anyone in the west.

In Russia whether he was murdered or not is a mute point as nothing will come of it either way.

His wife is publically saying it.

I suspect she will get a "blood clot" some time in the near future as well. Or accidentally fall out of a window. Or have her plane accidentally shot down.
