pellinore Posted February 21 #1 Share Posted February 21 (edited) Bring it on, Putin! We're ready for you! Grant Shapps is under pressure to explain a humiliating Trident nuclear missile test failure that saw the multi-million-pound weapons system go 'plop' in the ocean. The Royal Navy has confirmed 'an anomaly' occurred during an exercise involving HMS Vanguard off the Florida coast last month - when the Defence Secretary was aboard the ballistic missile submarine. The US-made Trident 2 - with a dummy warhead - successfully 'left the submarine', but its first stage boosters did not ignite and the 58-ton missile sack next to the vessel, The Sun reported. Are British armed forces the laughing stock of the world? Grant Shapps 'must face MPs to explain' how Trident nuclear missile humiliatingly MISFIRED from Royal Navy sub during test and 'ditched into the ocean' | Daily Mail Online Edited February 21 by pellinore
Piney Posted February 21 #2 Share Posted February 21 Jesus! The Tridents are 80s-90s dinosaurs and are probably falling apart. On a positive note MI6 and the SAS are still top shelf in intelligence and special ops. 6

It is not being unpatriotic or unreasonable to say that nothing works in the UK anymore. The two shocks of Covid and Brexit have exposed us as a kleptocracy, which is now falling apart. Our schools are crumbling (literally, due to RAAC concrete), waiting lists for healthcare, asylum, courts, and other services are now measured in years, not weeks or months. It is virtually impossible to see a GP face to face, and it is actually impossible to register with a dentist as a new patient. Personal tax has reached levels never seen in the last 70 years, the national debt is higher than it has ever been, and the only international trade deals we can strike as ones that are disadvantageous to us. The govt answer? To cut back on public services so they can decrease income tax by a penny, to try to bribe the electorate into giving them another 5 years to plunder the country some more. From a military perspective people are 75 percent of it. It's sad about the social services and school system, but dictators like Putty kill their smart people off and the Russian Federation doesn't stand a chance against the UK if they decide to take a shot just because of the amount of infiltration and intelligence gathered. But I know nothing........😇 2
L.A.T.1961 Posted February 21 #5 Share Posted February 21 I was lucky enough to see Vanguard when it stopped for resupply in Loch long. By a complete fluke I had hired a holiday place on the Loch. The Sub was the most menacing thing I think I have ever seen. With an ominous noise emanating from its engines when on the move. Pity anybody who upsets us. 2

Attempting to launch nukes wouldn't be in their best interests.
Essan Posted February 21 #7 Share Posted February 21 So basically, if Russia launches a load of misfiring missiles with defective non working nuclear warheads at us, we may not be able to turn Russian into a nuclear desert in response. Meanwhile, why are the Daily Mail telling the Russians this? If it was the Daily Mailski based in Moscow reporting the same about Russia, the editors would all be accidently falling out of 6 floor windows about now. 3
itsnotoutthere Posted February 22 #8 Share Posted February 22 Probably yes, but still not in the same league as the US :-

The trident missiles are actually American and the UK navy draws from the USN pool of missiles to harness operational and cost synergies. So if they work for the USN then they work for the UK navy also and Shapps is absolutely correct in stating it’s a misfire anomaly. Any adversary thinking this misfire is the norm is a fool

I remember firing blanks from NATO rifles, they would jam quite regularly, whereas live ammunition wouldn't. Something to do with the gases, I believe. I know it isn't a very good analogy, but I am quite prepared to believe a live missile would behave differently from a test one. The Daily Mail was looking for a click-worthy headline. Its not really a concern if the odd one or two fail. What is a greater concern is that for 20 years there have been deployed troops where only every other one actually has ammunition in their guns, and during operations we kept having to go to our NATO allies for shells, missiles, and ammunition. That ridiculous and the catch of NATO - that being that members feel over secure and therefore spend as little as possible on defence. In comparison to the 2.1% of GDP we spend on defence during the cold war it was 12%. Spending is not a bad thing, it increases demand in the economic creating economic growth. Both the Labour Party and Tories put party ideology before fiscal policy. They focus on the immediate knowing that the public don`t understand economics and therefore why the immediate actually reduces growth. Sack them all!!!! I say gather up all the economics graduates, create a new chamber, and give the running of the economy to them. A remote technocracy made possible using Microsoft Teams. And go through every other aspect of running a state and do the same. No more political ideologies, lets focus on the correct running of the state. Sadly the public would throw a fit at the end of multi-party democracy as its replaced with a technocracy, as they are too stupid to know any different. The universities have our gifted and talented, not the politicians, so they should be running the country. I. and the sooner the better. 😉 Although replicating Starmer would require quantum computers to allow two states of mind running at the same time. 😆 I would be more interested in where the launch leak originated from. I can't believe its from the military as they should not be that daft. As it makes the gov look bad one has to look at those who think their side benefits from exposing military activities. Civil servants have been complicit in the past.
