I thought this was an interesting look at how something as mundane as a cow can kickstart a local legend with the potential to persist for years.

It raises the question of how other more famous creature legends actually got started.

I agree, It is an excellent example.  It has a little personal connection for me. .  Way back in 1972, my college roommate hit an angus cow at night ranging across the Indian Nation Turnpike.  He was on his way home from college.   Back in the days before cell phones, he just had to wait for help, alone, shaken up and in the dark.  Imagine if he had just missed it by a foot or two and seen some black hulk that stared through his window as he sped past.   There would have been a lot of stories passed around when we got back from break, and I guarantee some would have been embellished. And BTW, thanks for all you do. I love this site.

In the short time it has been thought to exist, clear pics exist.  Scat exists.

Where’s Bernard Heuvelmans when you need him?

Okay, this is obviously satire of cryptozoology in general, but there really is something sinister about an out-of-place cow. You don't expect to see an all-black cow standing in your driveway after midnight. It feels like a paranormal experience.
