No, not necessarily. However, it is curious how the stark uneven distribution lands almost exclusively in the US

I blame Hollywood ..  and the education system.

We must just be that interesting to ETs!

It looks uneven, surely, though (i) this is based on NUFORC data which will be U.S.-biased and (ii) does Shermer propose that "UFOs" are merely the domain of Americans, Brits, and urban South Africans, coastal Australians, some Japanese, and other disparate peoples?  Controlling for generalized media blackout regions, deserts, jungle, or other less-inhabited areas, the UFO map compares rather well with population density.  Shermer's attempted association between the phenomena and, apparently, Protestantism seems like a weak stretch to me; there are likely more interesting parallels.

Interesting, without knowing it, I would say this are also the spots where Nuclear reactors are and/or Nuclear weapon depots.

As we all know (or the people that are following this for years), UFO sightings raised after we stared working with Nuclear power. AS the US is the country which invented the Nuclear Bomb, the only country that ever used it against people, the country with the most Nuclear reactors and weapons and the only country that was always at war since it was established (I think you had 11 years of peace in total) , it is not hard to find UFOs in America. And let's not forget that if Roswell is true, that you have killed Aline's. So if the UFOs are friendly, they have to watch you as you are not (your history shows it), if they are not friendly they again have to watch you as you could be the biggest threat.

You don't need to be a scientist to make this map, just look at the past 70 years of UFO sightings and you know everything...

You need to take a couple of steps back, and look at the entire world map. That is what Shermer is talking about.

The US seem to be obsessed with UFOs.. hence the socio cultural phenomenon remark.

Hazzard, few countries have had organizations like MUFON or NUFORC, operating for decades. We are blessed here. My opinion.

I know what Shermer did, he ^assumed^ that since UFO's do not exist, the Americans out West are unstable people, and fakers.

Nod, if you see where Shermer went wrong, Hazzard

Lol, we're expected to believe Shermer when his opinion isn't worth one iota more than any ufologist.

No,  but it's nuclear signature was when it set off the first three atomic bombs, then multiples of nuclear bomb tests afterward. 1,054 to be exact. Small wonder most of the sightings are in the US, followed by Russia.

How could ET detect those tiny  explosions... when every star in the galaxy have been doing the same thing every second for billions of years?

If you think about it, I'm sure the answer will come to you. Hint. Many thousands  bursts in one tiny area over a very short time. Stop equating their technology with ours. We're still in our infancy.

Hey, Im not the one playing little Bobby here. 😄

I simply find the claim of ET on Earth silly based on the evidence I have seen so far.

I have problems with a race being far more advanced than us. We are a first generation rocky planet with metals around a first generation unusually quiet yellow sun in the "habitable zone" of a first generation quiet galaxy and our system just happened to form in the molecular cloud of a neutron star merger giving us the good metals for advanced tech.

We might have close to equals. But nothing that far beyond.

I also have a problem with humanoid aliens. We are a pure product of environmental stresses and not a convergent to fill a niche and the way evolution works, if we encounter technological life and they don't have a large moon pulling on them. They'd probably look sorta like crabs

Which you've reminded us of in every single UFO thread for twenty some odd years. OCD?

I'll second that.  The evidence for no ET greatly outweighs the zero evidence for ET.

As I've said before, seems presumptuous to claim this when as a species, we're still taking baby steps.
