Still Waters Posted March 15 #1 Share Posted March 15 We know meat-heavy diets aren't good for the planet or our health, but how far would you go to switch to a more sustainable way of eating it? How about replacing your current options with a few choice cuts of python meat? A new study by an international team of researchers examined the feasibility of farming pythons on a commercial scale and the environmental cost of this farming compared to conventional livestock. The results were promising: the snakes grew rapidly, even during periods of fasting, and returned a good amount of python meat relative to the food they consumed (which included chicken and rodents). They can also be fed waste proteins from other meat industries. And relying on snake flesh for food has another unusual advantage. https://www.sciencealert.com/wild-new-study-suggests-we-should-put-more-python-on-our-plates-in-future The research has been published in Scientific Reports. 1

openozy Posted March 16 #3 Share Posted March 16 I don't like the idea of eating carnivores, I suppose I eat fish but they generally don't eat rats.

Small shark hook with a steel leader. Attached to a 5 gallon bleach bottle with a small shackle. You either find a big cat or snapper at the end of the day. Grim Reaper 6 Posted July 17 #15 Share Posted July 17 They are being raised for their robust, diamond-patterned skins, which are sold to high-end European fashion houses for belts, bags and handbags, but some scientists and industry insiders believe the snakes' true value could lie in their meat. Demand for meat is growing globally, despite the carbon footprint associated with traditional livestock, and while a plant-based diet is often touted as the best alternative, some feel reptiles have been overlooked as an option.. https://phys.org/news/2024-07-snakes-plate-pythons-touted-protein.html 1
