Idioms and Axioms

What's your favorite?

Which ones make you chuckle or give you a sense of wisdom from knowing? What is the most unusual one you know?

Idioman expression in the usage of a language that is peculiar to itself either in having a meaning that cannot be derived from the conjoined meanings of its elements (such as up in the air for "undecided") or in its grammatically atypical use of words (such as give way)

Axiom: a statement accepted as true as the basis for argument or inference;

an established rule or principle or a self-evident truth
maybe maxim too?
Maxim: a general truth, fundamental principle, or rule of conduct; a proverbial saying
It could be fun to hear your favorite idioms, axioms, and maxims, especially if rare or new ones are shared.

  • The title was changed to Idioms and Axioms

I heard one about a friends uncle who was wild and crazy that had a kid who was wild and crazy. He was talking to a friend about it and they simply replied....

"if you plant corn, you're gonna get corn"

That still cracks me up.

You can lead a Horse to Water but you can't make them drink.

does Murphy's Law qualify?

How does that one go?

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong.

well, I guess that's an adage or an epigram. I suppose that went wrong.
