'A lifelong crook': Columnist takes a hatchet to GOP claims of Trump victimization

New York Magazine columnist Jonathan Chait is taking a hatchet to claims by many Republicans that former President Donald Trump is a victim of "lawfare" by Democratic attorneys. In short, Chait finds that concerns about Trump's criminality have been shared in conservative circles for years. "Before he won the Republican nomination the first time, Republicans were perfectly aware that his decades of bilking customers and counterparties, lying to everybody, and surrounding himself with known criminals posed a series legal risk," he said. "Now that that risk has gone from theoretical to actual, and it is being shared by the Republican Party.

"What’s unusual about Trump is not that a politician got into legal trouble, or even that a professional scammer went into politics, but that a political party allowed a crook to rise to its top," he said. "That, in turn, reveals the deeply unhealthy state of the GOP, not any extralegal steps being taken by his opponents."

Conversely, prior to him becoming president he wasn’t being prosecuted for all of those things, was he? The bloke had been doing business the same way for decades and only got prosecuted for it recently. For those minded to see victimisation, it is there. Same as for those minded to say “well, he’s a crook, about time he faced the music”, there’s evidence for that too.

He's been in court since the 80's.

On and off, with predictable regularity, yes. He’s facing what … 20 cases all at once?
His propaganda team won’t have to work hard to spin it as “lawfare”, it’s an easy pill for the minions to swallow.

He's had somewhere around 3500 cases during a 45 year period: Trump and his 3,500 suits: Prosecutor and author reveals in interview his portrait of 'Plaintiff in Chief' (abajournal.com)

That comes out to around 77 a year.  A mere 20 would be a slow year.

He's committing all new ones. Everything he's charged with now is from the last couple of years.

The link I am providing from the 1970s describes the first time he was prosecuted by the Federal Government.

We all know that it will make no difference.  We live in parallel universes, with different facts, different histories, even different religions although we call them by the same names.    The MAGA universe has a different frame of reference and a whole set of different facts that are not the same as our universe.  Can universes merge without exploding?

Yea our Universes can merge without exploding, however even that said we have a very very long and difficult road ahead. However, I remain very optimistic that given the right set of circumstance's our country will come together again, it's only a matter time. Tate

Peace my brother!!:tu:
