Hannah Gutierrez-Reed: Rust armourer sentenced to 18 months for Halyna Hutchins' death

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the movie set weapons handler who loaded a gun for actor Alec Baldwin before it fired and killed a cinematographer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

The armourer, 26, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March.

She was found not guilty of a second charge - tampering with evidence - over the 2021 shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust.

The sentence Gutierrez-Reed received is the maximum possible.

Mr Baldwin, 65, also faces a manslaughter trial in July. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ultimately the buck stops with the armorer.  Their entire job is to ensure that the firearms used on a movie set are being used safely.

Nope the buck does not stop there, Baldwin's trial is in June and I expect he will get the same kind of lecture and sentence from the judge.   He was the producer and is the one who hired the amorer as a favor to his friend, also he was pinching pennies so tight the union crew walked off so he hired inexperienced crew.   The armorer is responsible but his lack of many things, including leadership, was just as responsible.  He didn't check the gun before firing it, and that is on Him even though the armorer should have checked it, you always check you weapon no matter who is supposed to have already checked it.  He has been on  sets with weapons before so he should have known.

I expect if the trial had been in California the outcome would have been different, but in New Mexico, except for politicians, rich people from somewhere else do  not get special treatment.
