is the answer to this in the link? i can't see it

You tell me. Where do you get the idea that most, or at least many, of the millions of registered UK citizens who are not currently working are recent immigrants?

Or did you just make the idea up?

and how many of that 20% are people now living here from other countries in the last 2/5 years let's say- do you know off hand?

Very, very few. Most people who come here legally will be here on work visas and won't be eligible for benefits.

Most arriving illegally will have claimed asylum, which doesn't get processed quickly and you can't work until it is granted (obviously lots do under the table cash in hand work but they won't be counted as part of the "workforce").

How many recent immigrants into the UK who are registered as not being able to work due to illness or other capacities do you think there are?

You'll notice, @Essan, that itsnotoutthere as usual conflates ethnicity with immigration status. Which says a lot about his prejudice, and nothing about your question.

I certainly have no intention of picking your nips...

It's also not nit picking. Essan asked a question. Itsnotoutthere's response answers a different question but is being misrepresented as answering Essan's.

Looks like mere nick picking to me.

I'd say it's more than mere nit picking

It raises an interesting question as to why those originally from the Indian Sub continent make up a sizeable percentage of the UK workforce that is currently unemployed.    But that's not the subject of this discussion.   We weren't even talking about those registered unemployed - rather, the much higher number of people who are not working and not seeking employment.   Which is a problem.  And the reason we need more immigrants to do they jobs they are not doing .....

Do you have a preferred Nick to pick?

I'd have to go for Frost over Clegg or Griffin.

Nick, nip, or nit. Reminds me of the 'damp squid' debate: it must be squid as they are damp, and a squib isn't.

While not exactly on topic, I would bet that the stats would be similar to what this topic is talking of.

It goes some way to expelling the myth that we need immigration to boost the economy, and expelling the myth that uncontrolled immigration isn't a drain on society.

Recently five dead, one of which was a child😢 France needs to do more to stop these boats leaving their shores.

But they're not IMO. Why is this? I think I know why but I'd be interested in thoughts on this

The Rwanda solution & anything like it is putting plasters on the problem IMO!

The only way around this is to stop the reasons why people want to escape their countries!

Is this not the bleeding obvious solution?:

A World Force.

 Example:

Why do so many people from Mexico etc want to get to North America?
Would the main reason be the cartels?

Why hasn't The USA (with the help of other Allied countries if necessary) steamed in, in force & wiped these fekers out? WHY?

No cartels, no massive migrant problem??? I don't know, what do you think?

I think it is fairly obvious that no country has great enthusiasm for stopping asylum seekers leaving their country. Would the Brits, if the boats were going the other way? I really can't imagine the people stridently condemning the French for not doing more condemning their own govt if there was a sudden exodus the other way for some reason. Can you imagine Farage with his binoculars on the South Coast complaining that the UK wasn't doing enough to stop the boats and putting lives at risk if the boats were heading to France?
