Labour is now the true party of English patriotism (Sunday Telegraph)

From today's Telegraph:

When you’ve trashed the economy, hammered mortgage holders, weakened the union, neglected our forces, repeatedly broken laws you expected others to follow and denigrated some of our proudest national institutions – from the BBC, to the National Trust and England football team – I’m afraid you have lost any right to call yourself a patriotic party.

And since the Tories have been in power, pride in our flag – indeed, pride in our national identity – has become more contentious. Shouting “woke” doesn’t just undermine the proud British tradition of free speech, dissent and independent thinking. At best, it suggests they don’t have faith in the strength of our history, identity and flag to withstand discussion. At worst, they don’t care if division weakens our nation if it strengthens their grip on power.

Agreed.  The Left have abandoned the working class white person in general.  Such people don't drink chardonnay and virtue signal enough.

Also, FYI, it is spelled "epitome".

Yep, that's the Tories nicely summed up. Glad you have come round to my point of view.

“Kwasi and I agreed there was a triumvirate of problems — the Treasury, the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility [OBR]…they all instinctively have the same mindset…They'd been pro-Remain…They're pro-China.”
Liz Truss MP, Conservative and former UK prime minister, April 2024

After fourteen years in government, the Conservative’s two flagship policies were austerity and Brexit. Austerity has led to hollowed out public services - in local government, the legal system, transport and health care among others. Brexit was an unimagined policy. Taking barrier free access to the UK’s nearest and biggest trading bloc, replacing it with nothing.

The Conservatives increasingly thrives on blame and conspiracy theories. We see this in Liz Truss (remain institutions), Danny Kruger (world government), Miriam Cates (cultural marxism) and Jacob Rees-Mogg (the blob). For many Conservatives, their electoral defeat - expected later this year - will merely reinforce their conspiracy theories, blame and rightward shift.

A classic Tory move: try to force the sick and disabled into work, and at the same time remove the support for them to do:

A major scheme to help disabled people into work has been quietly scrapped – just as the prime minister announced a crackdown on disability benefits.

The £100m Work and Health Programme, operating in England and Wales, will end in the autumn, providers have been told, at the same time that Rishi Sunak wants to cut benefits for 420,000 sick and disabled people in an attempt to force them into work – a move that charities say would instead leave people destitute.

The blow to disabled people comes after the prime minister unveiled a plan to hand power to officials with no medical training to decide whether an employee is sick, raising the possibility that decisions about workers’ health will be taken to hit targets rather than on clinical need.

If installing huge amounts of fencing to sit on is patriotic then yes they are.

And Starmer has forgotten how to read now just in case he doesn't like what he see's.

Police attack patriots celebrating st georges day, media label them far right extremists.

Were they just walking down the street peacefully ,yes.were they chanting hate .no.did the cops try to stop them walking down the street. Yes.

These Palestinian protests..do they walk peacefully down the street ..no. do they chant hate.. yes.do cops try to stop them..no.

Two tier policing ? Er yeh.

Just to keep it on topic, seeing as the labour party are so anti semetic, these situations would be even worse..

Just my opinion but tories hate the working class, and labour hate the white working class.mmmm who to vote for.

That's largely because the present govt used it so much during lockdown, when ministers appeared broadcasting from home with their rooms bedecked with huge Union flags. It has become associated with Brexit, racism, incompetence, and a failing govt.

I will freely admit that I would never visit a pub bedecked with Union flags, or a house where someone displays it, because I suspect it will be the home to people with tattoos, beer bellies, Kiss-Me-Kwik hats and an air of working-class superiority which is generally considered offensive, mostly to the wealthy that persuaded them to vote for them.

You are so close to understanding the truth. You are just missing it by a whisker.

It's like when Rees Mogg said, "Import controls are barriers to free trade, and barriers to free trade make countries poorer". The whole world was urging him to make that little step further, but his intellect failed him at that point.

Did these thugs keep within the area and restrictions in place for it? No.

Did they attack police when officers tried to stop them leaving the approved area? Yes.

The same can't be said of the pro-palestinian protests, and that is the difference. Where splinter groups of protestors have gone outside the permitted area, they have also been stopped.

And those rules and restrictions you're suddenly so against - a Tory law this government passed.

The St Georges flag is not racist, it is people who are racist.

If you take the racists flag away he/she is still a racist.

I understand you are die hard labour, and probably have been all your life.my dad was the same,it was preached to me the torys were for the rich and labour was for us.but now to me it seems the tories are for the rich and labour are for the minorities.

So where does that leave me ? A majority white working class guy...shafted by both parties.

Every alternative party willing to give the majority of people what they want is automatically deemed to be far-right.

My advice is support Reform. It might only win a couple of seats, but its about applying pressure for change which is happening.

I think your definition of the word thug is different to mine, i don't call a group of people peacefully waving their national flag walking down the street thugs.

Of course i bet you think that jewish guy was in the wrong for mearly existing during the Palestinian  riots..if the Palestinian protests are so peaceful, why did the cop say he feared for the jews safety.?

Thing is these alternative parties are made up of disgraced or career politicians, their all corrupt.

As the majority of this country is working class we need a party that represents us.id much prefer someone like tommy Robinson than farage, even though the media has branded both racist...we all know neither are.farage is in it for the money.

Look at this flag-waving ignoramus. He probably doesn't know that St George's mum was a Palestinian and they also celebrate St George's Day:

No at all. Diehard Conservative, but not these current ignorant UKIPers who are trashing democracy. Liz Truss as PM, Boris Johnson as PM, Rishi Sunak as PM, Suella Braverman as Home Sec, Nadine Dories as Culture Sec, Grant Shapps rotated through many roles- so many Tory's holding posts they are completely unsuitable for. In fact, it is as if they were put in post just for a laugh, except the laugh is on the UK.

I'm sure this man agrees with you. He's struggling to say "foreigners" in an acceptable way:
