Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has said the cost of living crisis has left her “increasingly short” financially, despite her £86,000 a year salary.

The Labour MP has said she “winces” at her bank balance each month with her mortgage, gas, electricity and food bills all adding up.

“What makes me wince is when I look at my bank statement and I find that the money coming in is increasingly short of the money going out,” she told GB News

There are many people who earn £100k in the UK and feel it doesn't go far enough: senior hospital doctors, MPs, GPs, head teachers of Academies, CEOs of medium sized enterprises, charity bosses. Even some people's pensions are huge- Liz Truss get £147k per year as an ex-PM, Nigel Farage gets £77k per year as an ex-MEP. I guess it is what you get used to.

£100k is not far off £8k per month- not enough for some people it seems, though it would seem a fortune to me: Jeremy Hunt defends '£100k isn't a huge salary' comments | Politics News | Sky News

In the US that translates to nearly $108k.  Poor dear.

Honestly if this is a hardship for her she should quit government and get a job in the private sector.  She is likely well educated enough to get twice her government wage.

She's the shadow Chancellor and she can't balance her own household books... and you think she can run a country?.

Has a single Tory politician shown any aptitude? Vote Reform!

With all the travelling, additional apartments, meals, and public attendances they have to put in, I think £86,000 is on the low side. Even if they have a shoebox in London for overnight stays, its going to be costing a huge amount in rent each year.

I think all MPs should be on a minimum of £150,000.

Yes, but I also believe Reform is the way forward for the UK.

That's all expensed.
