Ok,of those "both sides" which side has many videos of them espousing hate speech about a certain type of person?

I suspect you are watching a carefully-selected list of videos (deliberately?).  Yes, some show hate speech.  And some don't.

Hell different people use it everyday to pick out certain people...we've actually gotten really good at it.

Sure thing.  With a little editing you can make it say anything you want it to.

I see many similarities between now and Kent.  We are on the same trajectory now as then, just not as far along.

The cops were called in too soon.  You know when you call them that they will resort to violence.  Blaming a cop for being violent is like blaming a desert for being dry.  They are what they are,  Some civics lesson you want to teach:  democracy means imposing your will by force.

The videos show both sides (See Post 220).

Doug

This isn't a blame game. The cops weren't really violent. They did what they had to do. How does what they did come close to comparing with Kent? And don't worry Doug. Death to Americans was also all over pamphlets that were found. You haven't been left out.

This war started in 1948 with the creation of the modern state of Israel.  Before that, Palestinians and Jews lived together in the Holy Land in peace back to about 1350 or so.

Actually, the Kent murders were committed by National Guardsmen.  The state police were the heroes, sort of, but you never heard about them.

I don't doubt that there are some vicious people among the Columbia demonstrators.  There always are, whether they were invited or not.  But that fact, does not justify the use of force in a situation that can be resolved by negotiation.

OK.  So you heard some hate speech.  What would you do about it?  SHOULD you do anything about it?  Was it legally hate speech so that it could be prosecuted?  Why wasn't it prosecuted?

What students were murdered by police at Columbia? Where are you getting this from? They were removed. They didn't like it but what they were doing was illegal. They were warned for weeks and several times before they were taken out. There were negotiations.

It was against the school rules and destruction of their property so they have every right to suspend and expel the students involved.

As I understand it, protected speech is that “I hate people who eat burgers with a knife and fork! DEATH TO THE CUTLERY USERS!!” Is protected whereas pointing at someone eating a burger with cutler and saying “I am going to kill you” is not protected. One is a statement of priciple the other a threat.
So “death to Israel/America/Hamas”? Protected.
Telling a student carrying “the wrong sort of flag” that they’re going to die? Not protected.

I don’t know if there’s a direct connection or not given the amount of time that has passed, but during the late Crusader period there was a similar expression used as a rallying cry by the Muslims, that they would drive all the infidels from the holy places  “into the sea”. The context both phrases having in common being the complete purging of their sworn enemies from the entirety of the Holy Land.

Yes, Saladin damaged the artificial harbor of Caesarea as much he could to deter the future crusader fleets from using it.

Protected legally not “you cannot tell me I’m wrong/an idiot/tell me to feck off” protected. You cannot be fined/sued/imprisoned for saying it, but you can receive all sorts of other pushback for it (like being sacked or booted from uni).

As you can tell from those flyers, a lot of these terrorist sympathizers are graphic arts majors.

OverSword just posted a new bill that's been passed by the Senate redefining anti-semitism. I haven't really read what it says yet but I doubt it will be retroactive anyway.

Lets use every possible opportunity to criticize and put the hate on every citizen that does not think like we do. It is always somebody else at fault.  Lets put on the jack boots and stomp them into the mud.  I am sure Russia and China are happy with the efforts.

Best way for a democracy to stay a democracy is  beat students into submission? Democracy always thrives under iron control by the state?

The students will pay a price for all of this, Their education is disrupted, those that are arrested will suffer further real life consequences.  Already CEO's are stating they will not hire them.

This is definitely going to follow them. Most jobs anywhere, much less a high corporate job, require two things. Your school records and a criminal background check.

The protesters are trying to take over anyone `s lawyer :(

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Across the country, students on college campuses have been protesting the war in Gaza, and more than 1,000 of those protestors have been arrested. All Americans have the right to free speech, but where is the line between their right to make their voices heard and breaking the law?
