Iranian officials say they had contact with two people from the helicopter and that the crash was not severe. CNN is the only media I can find that is saying this.

(5) Iranian official says contact with 2 people aboard president's helicopter indicates crash was "not severe" (cnn.com)

Iranian officials have spoken to two people on the same helicopter as President Ebrahim Raisi since it crashed Sunday, Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri told the country's semi-official FARS news agency.

Because officials made contact "several times" with a passenger and member of the flight crew shortly after the crash, "It appears that the incident was not severe," Mansouri said.

Found it on NBC. Scroll down link. They may be alright.

Live updates: Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter crashes in northern Iran's fog and cold (nbcnews.com)

Mohsen Mansouri, Iran's vice president, said that contact has been established between rescue workers at two people involved in the crash.

He did not specify who rescue workers had been in contact with when making the comments on state television today, but noted that communication was established on "several occasions."

Or the US.

I'm not convinced Iran would want to attach blame to either Israel or the US. They had an opportunity for a major conflict with Israel just recently and passed on it. The other issue might be one of optics — of having failed to protect an important leader.

Raisi’s death wouldn’t change Iranian policy, but would spark fight for power

It is too early to know the fate of Iran’s president and foreign minister after their helicopter crashed in northwestern Iran Sunday, but initial signs don’t look especially promising. An Iranian official told Reuters that while authorities are “still hopeful,” the information coming from the crash site is “very concerning.” The lives of President Ebrahim Raisi, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, are “at risk,” the official added.

They may not. Rethinking, the weather was pretty obviously too bad really for that flight to take off in the first place. Everything shows it was too foggy. It's so bad they can't get in to the area yet.

I don't think I'd want to be that helicopter pilot. Raisi is not going to be happy when they get back.

Better the Devil you know as they say.

I've seen comments from some highly placed Israelis that it would be difficult for Iran to find a worse, more evil replacement.

This event may be a result - just guessing - of the top "man", Khamenei being expected to pass within the forseeable future and it's setting off a succession struggle.

Perhaps. Khamenei is in his mid-80s, so I'm sure that's in the minds of many. I'm still inclined, however, to think it was just an accident.

Turkey sends drones, helicopter carrying night-vision equipment to Iran

Turkey's Defense Ministry announced late on Sunday that the country would send drones and a helicopter carrying night-vision equipment to Iran to help locate the regime leader, who was one of many officials involved in a crash early on Sunday.

Rescuers are now searching an area where a smell of fuel was detected.

A Turkish drone has identified a source of heat suspected to be the wreckage of the Iranian president’s helicopter, Anadolu news agency says on X. It has shared the coordinates of the possible crash site with Iranian authorities.

Accident or accidental assassination by the religious mullahs? Hard to tell

Here's some video of the suspected crash site.

That^ looks like a large but somewhat diffuse heat signature.  Depending on how good the IR equipment is, it could indicate substantial damage so, a harder more destructive impact.  We can hope.  These two guys will not be missed if they have assumed room temperature.

The guy has so much blood on his hands. I can't help but think this is rather 'poetic' that he disappeared in the fog of a mountain.

Not America or Israel, maybe just bad conditions and error.  We have helicopter crashes too.  And yet, the mullahs always have to wonder if today's pilot or driver  has a daughter or relative beaten or killed by the regime   Will he decide to head for the nearest solid object at high speed? Heavy is the head who wears the ayatollah's headgear.

This is the mountain and crash site. Not exactly a dangerous altitude. Anyway

Iranian authorities are using Turkish nighttime capable search and rescue helicopter and drones. Hard to believe Iran hasn’t their own all weather search and rescue teams

Going to be a rough couple of days for Intelligence Analysts I think.

BBC is reporting they have both assumed room temperature.  I don't mind admitting that I am pleased with this outcome.  I rarely engage in such schadenfreude but these two HAVE EARNED IT...
