ICC prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas leaders

Recommended Posts

Quote

The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has applied for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas's leader in Gaza for war crimes.

Karim Khan said there were reasonable grounds to believe that both men bore criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity from at least 7 October 2023.

The ICC, based in The Hague, has been investigating Israel's actions in the occupied territories for the past three years - and more recently the actions of Hamas as well.

Mr Netanyahu recently called the prospect of senior Israel figures joining the ICC's wanted list "an outrage of historic proportions".

The United States, China, India, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Qatar and Israel are not ICC signatory countries so they have no standing to arrest the leader of Israel.  I'm sure Hamas will be turning their leadership over since I don't see Palestine on the list I assume they are.

There are limited situations in which the ICC has jurisdiction over the nationals of countries that have not joined the Rome Statute. This includes when a citizen of a non-member country commits war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide on the territory of an ICC member country.

Biden slams ICC prosecutor’s ‘outrageous’ request for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders

President Biden on Monday ripped the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor for seeking arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“The ICC prosecutor’s application for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is outrageous,” Biden said in a statement. “And let me be clear: whatever this prosecutor might imply, there is no equivalence — none — between Israel and Hamas.  We will always stand with Israel against threats to its security.”

Hamas slams ICC for seeking arrest of its leaders alongside Netanyahu, Gallant

The Hamas terror group on Monday denounced a decision by the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to seek the arrests of its leaders and complained that the prosecutor announced the development in the same breath as a similar move against Israel’s prime minister and defense minister.

In a statement Monday, Hamas said it “strongly denounces the attempts of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to equate the victim with the executioner by issuing arrest warrants against a number of Palestinian resistance leaders.”

There's already a warrant out for Putin and has been for some time.
