Biden might not make it on Ohio ballot

The Biden campaign may end up on only 49 out of 50 state ballots for this year's presidential election.  An Ohio state law requires that presidential candidates get certified atleast 90 days before the election, which in this year would be before August 7.  The Democrats though are not having their convention to certify Biden as their candidate till August 19-22, Republicans are having their convention to certify Trump in mid July.  The Democratic party was notified of this potential issue in early April but have so far largely waved it off.

In 2020 both Republicans and Democrats had their conventions after the certification cut off date smd thr Ohio legislature passed a special bill to change the certification deadline to only 60 days before the election so both candidates could be on the Ohio ballot.  So far in 2024 the Republican controlled Ohio legislature has not passed any bills to alter the certification deadline, bills proposed by Democrats to just change the certification date don't get enough Republican support to pass and Republican bills with tacked on amendments can't get enough Democrats to pass.  Why the Republican bills need Democrat support is due to some Republicans not wanting to change the certification deadline at all.

Not sure if it's bad planning on part of the DNC or arrogance that they can just ignore state laws but this may end up being a large embarrassment to the Democratic party if Biden can't get on the Ohio ballot but it will almost certainly lead to an increase in tensions and claims of an illegimate election.

I thought they'd eventually give an exception, but seems like these people are as hard headed as those in Colorado, and Maine. There'll need to be a lawsuit. Not sure theres enough time if appeals are insisted upon.

People can just do write in, but that's a pain.

Anyone else getting the (very tinfoil-y) feeling that someone is gearing up for a “this election was illegitimate because ….” defence/call to action once the BOM wins?

Lol - I can hear a healthy population on UM posters, who are fine with being p***ed on and then convinced that it is raining, furiously equivocating this situation to anything that has happened to Orange Man in the last four years.

Nah.

It's out right weird to me, of course BOM and his minions bent knee subjects know he can't win by honest means hence why he tried to steal the 2020 election with his exhorting his minions into a bumbling failed insurrection attempt,

If I was a Trump subject I would fear an honest election too

So they will go thru hell and back to use this to keep Biden off the Ohio ballot, funny how the rules they set for others do not apply to BOM

He'll be on the ballot. The governor called for a special session of the house to pass a bill, that will undoubtable be packed full of republican garbage.

Yeah, I read up on it, GOP using it to get what they want it also should make both GOP and BOM look really bad make them look like cowards to use a loophole to keep Biden off a ballet of a state dolt45 can't loose anyway.

"Illegitimate President", and "Not my President", but claiming not to be disputing anything...

House republicans in ohio are especially corrupt and have already said they will not pass a stand alone bill to get biden on the ballot. It will be backed with more bull**** for them to subvert the will of the voters, edge closer to a chrsitofacist theocracy, or simply line their pockets further.

Currently it seems the Republicans in the Ohio legislature just want an amendment that will ban foreigners from being able to donate to ballot initiatives inside the state of Ohio for Biden being on the ballot.

One could ask why the Democrats in Ohio feel like being able to get money from foreign donors for ballot issues is such a critical matter they are willing to risk their candidate not being on the ballot for the presidential election.

Question: If the state Congress is elected by the people, isnt their refusal actually the "wiil of the people"?

Was their a poll, or something, suggesting most Ohio citizens do want Biden on the ballot?

We overwhelming passed abortion rights and legal marijuana. They immediately tried to find loopholes.

An ohio is so gerrymandered (like most states) that the house is not actually representative of the population nor how the majority votes.

They're just ****ty cause the majority of people here want access to abortion and legal weed, which conflicts with their rural constituents believes who live out in bfe.

It seems to be blocking foreigners from other countries.

Basically it goes back to the abortion stuff that has been going on in Ohio.  A group from outside Ohio but inside the nation, the Sixteen Thirty Fund, was the biggest donor to the abortion issues voted on with them donating $5 million to the pro-abortion side but the biggest donor to the Sixteen Thirty Fund is a Swiss billionaire who donated approximately $200 million to the Sixteen Thirty Fund.

It does bring up the question of should foreign nationals be allowed to fund ballot issues in America in a general sense.

Rural constituents grow their own. You can have a good little side gig and nobody bothers you about it.

A Swiss billionaire indirectly donated millions of dollars to advance a cause he believes in inside Ohio, should foreign nationals be allowed to influence the policies of American states/the country as a whole or not
