The discussion is on the right's loss of support, not the movement of the remaining supporters further right. In 2019, right wing parties won 46% of the vote, left wing ones won 35%. The polls currently indicate this election left wing parties are on course for 48% of the vote, right wing just 36%. By any metric, that indicates the right losing popularity and the left gaining. P.S. Reform ison track for a massive.....0 seats. Same as last election. What a sea change!

I think you are labouring (no pun intended) under the misapprehension that the present government is in some way right wing, admittedly they've been sounding a little bit more right wing in the last couple of weeks but I'd put that down to the forthcoming election, and the only reason support is falling away is exactly because the conservative core base supporters don't see them as such, this is why Reform are currently ahead of them, the lib Dems and the greens. And you're correct, Reform might not win any seats, but this has more to do with the first past the post system of voting that you railed against in another post. And yes correct, we are due a turn around in who will govern the country it's what happens every 5 or 10 years, the only thing we differ on seems to be that you think it will be a benefit for this country under a Labour government & I think it will be the opposite. p. s. Funny how the EU seems to be heading in the opposite direction. Edited June 13 by itsnotoutthere

Right wing parties aren't right wing because the public must like right wing parties so any losing party can't be right wing. You realise by your logic then, only 14% of voters are backing a right wing party? You just argued yourself into an even smaller minority.

I think it will be better than another 5 years of this bumbling, self serving incompetence. But, as I've always maintained, I think any party having the kind of majority Labour looks like achieving us potentially dangerous. I'd rather every election resulted in a hung parliament (interpret that as you will). That way everyone actually has to work together instead of the pathetic tit for tat and ramming through acts the public deeply oppose. I will admit, there is a less mature part of me that is also really enjoying watching people like you, who've spent the entire time with the Tories in power crowing about it, finally getting such a thorough drubbing and trying to pretend you don't care. I'm only human.
itsnotoutthere Posted June 13 #55 Share Posted June 13 (edited) Yes, a flawed human, same as me, I voted for Tony Blair first time around for my sins, thinking it would improve the world....how wrong was I, the folly of youth I suppose. Oh, and I really don't care, I will be living on distant shores some time next year when the full ramifications kick in, hope you enjoy your Socialist utopia....been there, done that. Duke Wellington Posted June 14 #56 Share Posted June 14 Reform is ahead of the Tories! While a lot of people are tempted by Reform the danger is always that they`d see it as a waste vote. Well not now. I think this is going to be the trigger to get behind them and tick that box. Watch the Tories win zero seats, hilarious, and well deserved for not having been Tories for the last 50 years! A huge kick up the backside like no other! We might see Reform change its name and stay around forever, with the fake Tories bye bye!

But it would be interesting to see whether the more moderate right wing voters are willing to move further right to limit Labour's majority.
