pellinore Posted June 7 #1 Share Posted June 7 (edited) British paratroopers were made to show their passports after parachuting into France ahead of D-Day commemorations. Hundreds of soldiers parachuted into the same rural drop zone which was used on D-Day 80 years ago in Sannerville, Normandy, on Wednesday. More than 300 troops jumped into the field, including parachutists from Belgium and the US. As they landed, they were met by a makeshift customs desk and asked to produce their travel documents by French immigration officials. Crowds also went to watch the jump and the troops were applauded after landing. +and-then Posted June 7 #2 Share Posted June 7 If another global threat is unleashed in the EU, they should be reminded that they treated British soldiers disrespectfully over plain politics and that those soldiers will help them, if they can spare the time...

The insult has been addressed: Kirsty Young was presenting D-Day 80: Tribute to the Fallen, honouring the anniversary of the Normandy landings, when a person could be heard saying "French arseholes" off camera before the broadcast cut to images of a military band. itsnotoutthere Posted June 7 #4 Share Posted June 7 (edited) Yes, I'm sure the americans were as well. Makes perfect sense, we're not in the EU anymore. Another non-story. Edited June 7 by itsnotoutthere 1

Another non-story. The Belgian and US paratroopers were not subject to the checks. The Brits had to queue at little folding desks which were put up in the field. Which made it so funny! itsnotoutthere Posted June 7 #6 Share Posted June 7 (edited) From the article in the OP :- "US soldiers also had to go through the checks when landing, but Belgian troops bypassed checks because they are EU citizens." Non story. Desperate stuff Pell. Edited June 7 by itsnotoutthere

"Welcome to the Brexit, sir" You know damn well that the UK was never in the Schengen area pellinore, and so UK arrivals to France have always had to have their passports checked. Did you not know what you voted for? Travel advice from the UK Government, for the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in 2014, whilst we were in the EU. Make sure you have your passport! ...almost like it has nothing at all to do with Brexit. 🤦👇👇👇👇 https://www.gov.uk/government/news/travel-advice-for-the-70th-anniversary-of-the-normandy-landings
